FDI in Defence Sector : $1.31 million received since 2012

FDI in Defence Sector : The Central Government has announced that foreign direct investment or FDI amounting to $1.31 million has been received in the defence sector in last three years (since 2012) and current year. The MoS for Defence Rao Inderjit Singh said that since the opening up of FDI in defence sector, 34 proposals involving foreign investment have been approved so far. He also said that a total 287 industrial licenses have been issued till date in defence sector.

  • BRAHMOS is jointly developed by India and Russia, BrahMos is a precision strike weapon for Army, Navy & Air Force.
  • The 290-km BrahMos flies at a speed of 2.8 Mach and carries a conventional warhead of up to 300 kg.
  • According to the DRDO, the missile can be fitted in ships, mobile launchers, submarines and aircraft against land and sea targets.
  • The missile has a maximum velocity of 2.8 Mach and cruises at altitudes varying from 10 metres to 15 km.
  • It can be launched in either inclined or vertical configuration based on the type of the ship.
  • BrahMos missile is capable of being launched from submarine from a depth of 40-50 metres.
