 Facts about Chhattisgarh – Chhattisgarh is the 10th largest state in the country. On 1 November 2000, India gave birth to a new state called Chhattisgarh which was carved out of Madhya Pradesh. The Legislative Assembly of Chhattisgarh comprises 90 members. The state sends 11 members to the Lok Sabha and five members to the Rajya Sabha.

  • Bhoramdeo Temple: Bhoramdeo Temple is a complex of Hindu temples dedicated to the god Shiva in Bhoramdeo, in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. It comprises a group of four temples of which the earliest is a brick-temple.
  • Palace Kawardha: Kawardha is a Treasure Trove of breathtaking scenery & fascinating reminders of India’s rich cultural heritage. This lovely property was built in the 1930s by Maharaj Dharamraj Singh using the best Italian marble and stone, stands out in the 11 acres of lush green garden. It is more of a private guest house than of a hotel, which is rich in memories style, and history. This palace belongs to the Royal family of Kawardha State.
  • The Amrit Dhara Waterfall, Koriya, is a natural waterfall which originates from the Hasdeo River.
  • Sirpur is proposed world heritage site and Malhar are of historical significance, as they were visited by Xuanzang, the Chinese historian. Mama- bachha temple at Barsoor.
  • The hot spring is known as Taat Pani, (taat – hot, pani – water) the hot spring flows in Balrampur district. This hot spring flows throughout the year and is reputed to have medicinal properties due to its high sodium content. National Thermal Power Corporation Limited is developing a geothermal power plant at Taat Pani, which is described as the first geothermal power plant in India.
  • Gadiya Mountain in Kanker district, Kotumsar cave in Bastar district, Kailash gufa in Jashpur district, Ramgarh and Sita Bengra in Surguja district and Singhanpur cave in Raigarh district with pre-historic paintings are well known.
  • Archaeological sites worth seeing are Barsoor in Dantewada district, Malhar and Ratanpur in Bilaspur district, Sirpur in Mahasamund district, Koriya in Koriya district and Surguja in Surguja district.

Famous Personalities of  Chhattisgarh

Saba Anjum Karim –  Saba Anjum Karim was a member of the Indian women’s hockey team. She was the youngest of all participants in hockey competition at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. She hails from Kelabadi, Durg and is being coached by Tanveer Akil. On 1 November, she was honoured with Chhattisgarh’s top Gundadhur sports award.

Teejan Bai – Teejan Bai is an exponent of Pandavani, a traditional performing art form, from Chhattisgarh, in which she enacts tales from the Mahabharata, with musical accompaniments. Teejan Bai was born in Ganiyari village, 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) north of Bhilai, to Chunuk Lal Pardhi and his wife Sukhwati. She belongs to the Pardhi Scheduled Tribe of Chhattisgarh state.

Dr.Raman Singh – chief minister Chhattisgarh: Popularly known as chaur wale baba. He has received praise for his organizational abilities, as reflected in his state’s position with regard to the implementation of a programme to improve the conditions of Scheduled Tribes and Scheduled Castes. The United Nations has also recognised the work done in Chhattisgarh under his leadership and the fiscal management of the state is another aspect for which he is known.

Anupama Bhagwat – Anupama Bhagwat is an Indian Sitar Maestro. She stood first in the All India Radio competition in 1994 and was awarded a national scholarship by the Indian Ministry of HumanResource Development of India. She has performed in the United States and Europe.

Shekhar Sen –  Shekhar Sen is a singer, music composer, lyricist and actor. He is famous for his monoact musical plays “Tulsi”, “Kabeer”, “Vivekanand”, “Saahab” & “Soordas”. Those are researched, written, composed, enacted and directed by him. He is honoured by Padma Shri award in 2015 and also appointed as chairperson for Sangit Natya academy in the same year by Indian Government.

Thakur Pyarelal Singh – was the eminent freedom fighter from the state. He was born in Rajnandgaon district.

Anurag Basu – is the famous Director and Producer of Bollywood film industry. He has directed films like Murder, Life in a Metro, Kites, Gangster. He was born in Bhilai of Chhattisgarh.

Rajesh Chauhan – was the famous Off-spinner of Indian Cricket team. He was born in Ranchi but presently resides in Bhilai.

Abhishek Agrawal – is the famous young novelist who was born in Bhilai. His famous novel Sorry for loving you was also published in Hindi with the title “Ek Chahat Adhuri Si”.

Saba Anjum Karim – is the hockey player who represented Indian women’s hockey team in many international occasions. She belongs to Durg of Chhattisgarh.

Habib Tanvir – is the famous Urdu and Hindi poet and writer and associated with theatres. He was born in Raipur.

  • India’s biggest waterfall is situated in Bastar, Chhattisgarh.
  • The ancient name of this region is Dakshin-Kausal.
  • It borders with 7 states – Uttar Pradesh in the north, Jharkhand in the northeast, Odisha in the east, Andhra Pradesh in the south, Telangana in the southwest, Maharashtra in the west, Madhya Pradesh in the northwest.
  • The highest peak of the state is Bailadila range in Dantewada district with an altitude of 1,276 m.
  • Chitrakoot Waterfalls is located near Jagdalpur in Bastar district. The name of its river is Indravati. Due to its large span during monsoon season, it is also called as Niagra Falls of India.
