On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, social networking giant Facebook is launching an online shopping festival named Tied Together. The company has tied up with media agency GroupM and will be reportedly setting up a website between August 12 and August 29, which is during the festival. Facebook’s role will be to use its subscriber base and social networking platform to drive traffic to the shopping site. Many companies are looking more and more to the online marketplace for promotion and sales, with some companies using Raise and other coupon compiling sites to get the word out on their best deals.
Consumers and companies alike enjoy the benefits of such schemes, with those buying saving a good amount of money thanks to these deals, and those selling making a good name for themselves that helps build brand loyalty. Perhaps it is this mentality that is driving Facebook to consider spreading mirth during this festival, which will likely leave many people happy to grab some extra online goodies during what is a hectic time of year.
Participating companies will have to pay a fee that will be shared by Facebook, GroupM and other media agencies. Last year, Google organized a shopping festival along with with GroupM and Amazon called the Grand Diwali Mela. In 2013, Google launched the Great Online Shopping Festival. In July, Magicbricks joined hands with GroupM and Google to launch a property festival, which may have paved the way for this one to follow. Who knows where this may lead in the future, but it makes for some exciting times to come, that’s for sure!
