Eminent bureaucrat RK Trivedi no more

Former Gujarat Governor RK Trivedi died after prolonged illness. Trivedi, who also served as the Chief ElectionCommissioner, had a long and distinguished career as a bureaucrat. He breathed his last at his Nirala Nagar residence here, according to the his family. Trivedi was honoured with Padma Vibhushan as a recognition to his services towards the nation.

He had joined civil services in 1943 and after serving the state as district magistrates in some districts, he had a long stint at the Centre. Trivedi was made Central Vigilance Commissioner in October 1980 and in June 1982, he took over as the CEC. He was Gujarat Governor between 1986 and 1990. He is first person to introduce the voter id cards in Indian Elections.
