World Tennis Champion Novak Djokovic has been appointed as the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. The 28-year-old Serbian, has already worked to help vulnerable children through his role as UNICEF Serbia ambassador and his Novak Djokovic Foundation. Djokovic, who was born in Belgrade in 1987 shortly before the Balkans war broke out, spent much of his childhood in Serbia.

- Djokovic is the youngest player in the Open Era to defeat the top three players in succession and he achieved this when he defeated world number three Andy Roddick, world number two Nadal, and World number one Federer in the 2007 Rogers Cup.

- UNICEF is a United Nations Program headquartered in New York City.
- UNICEF was created by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children in countries that had been devastated by World War II.
- UNICEF was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1965 and the Prince of Asturias Award of Concord in 2006.
