  1. Haryana CM approves implementation of Rs. 50-crore National Hydrology Project

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has given approval for implementation of the Rs 50-crore National Hydrology Project to be set up in the state with 100 per cent assistance from the Centre. The project aimed at improving the extent, quality and accessibility of information about water resources, and strengthening the capacity of water resource management institutions in the country.

  1. Odisha to appoint 1000 Banking correspondents in unbanked gram panchyats

The Odisha government has decided to appoint one thousand Banking Correspondents in about one thousand unbanked Gram Panchayats of 107 blocks across the State.The decision was taken at a high level meeting presided over by chief secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at the State Secretariat in Bhubaneswar in view of the difficulties faced by the people in unbanked rural areas across the state after the demonetization of 1000 and 500 rupees note since November 8.

  1. Chandra babu launches AP Purse mobile app to promote digital transactions

The Andhra Pradesh government has launched AP Purse, a new platform to help people in the state move to cashless payments using mobile wallets. Its tech-savvy chief minister Chandrababu Naidu says his team wants to make AP the first state in India to completely switch to digital transactions. AP Purse is an Android app that compiles various mobile payment apps and tools. With this, the government hopes to create awareness and expand adoption of digital wallets, especially outside bigger urban areas.

  1. KVIC launched e-commerce platform to promote khadi Government

Consumers will be able to buy genuine khadi products online from an e-commerce portal to be launched by the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC). Trying to encash on fast-growing e-commerce sector and increasing demand for khadi products in the country, the KVIC has submitted a proposal to launch its online portal to the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME).

  1. Bengal forms anti-child trafficking panel

West Bengal government has announced setting up a panel for prevention of child trafficking in the wake of a child smuggling racket being unearthed in the state.  The panel will be headed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Partha Chatterjee and will comprise members from the opposition parties – Congress and the Communist Party of India-Marxist.

  1. UGC asks universities, colleges to create awareness about cashless transactions

UGC has asked all universities and colleges across the country to launch a month-long campaign to create awareness about cashless transactions with the government focusing on making India a digital economy. In a letter to varsities, the University Grants Commission (UGC) said a month-long campaign from December 12 “can be run to educate and train students in various modes of digital payments“.

  1. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary to be observed as ‘Water Day’

Birth anniversary of the father of Indian Constitution B R Ambedkar (April 14), will be observed as “Water Day” in the country. The idea is to sensitise people about managing precious water resources on birth anniversary of Ambedkar, who, besides being instrumental in framing the country’s Constitution, was also responsible for a definite all-India policy on managing water resources in India.

  1. Government asks banks to install additional 10 lakh PoS to promote digital transactions

In order to promote digital transactions across the country, government has asked banks to install 10 lakh additional Point of sale (PoS) terminals within four months. Towards this end, banks have already placed orders for 6 lakh PoS machines and another 4 lakh are likely to be ordered in the next few days. There are about 15 lakh PoS terminals currently across different merchants to facilitate card based payments.

  1. India International Science Festival (IISF-2016) inaugurated in New Delhi

India International Science Festival (IISF-2016) inaugurated in New Delhi. India has achieved a pre-eminent position in the field of Science & Technology, Space, Atomic Energy, Information Technology and newly emerging technologies such as Nano Technology and Bio Technology. The India International Science Festival (IISF-2016), the largest festival of science in this country with its focus on” Science for the Masses”.

  1. India to establish Center of Excellence in IT at Egypt

India will establish a centre of Excellence in Information technology at Egypt’s oldest and most prestigious Al-Azhar University as part of an effort to enhance cooperation in education between the two countries. The centre will be set up in the engineering department of the university early next year.

  1. Singapore tops global education rankings

Singapore’s teens are the best in the world, according to international education survey. In all three subjects, Singapore students demonstrated knowledge and skills equivalent to almost two additional years of schooling compared to students in the US, France and Sweden. The US improved on its 2012 performance by moving up to 25 on the list.
