1. Mother Teresa made a Saint, canonisation in September 2016
Mother Teresa, the Nobel Laureate of Kolkata, to be made a saint of a Roman Catholic Church. Pope Francis has recognized her second miracle and the mother will be given Sainthood. Canonization will be held in the first week of September 2016 as a part of the pope’s Jubilee year of mercy. West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated Missionaries of Charity (MC) on the Vatican decision to elevate Mother Teresa to sainthood.

2. Dena Bank ties up with SBI Life for Grp Life Insurance
Dena Bank ties up with SBI Life for Group Life Insurance to its Housing Loan customers under “Dena Grihaswami Suraksha Yojana”.The insurance cover will be given to all housing loan borrowers at a very low premium.
Highlights of DGSY:
- The Insurance cover is limited to outstanding loan amount.
- Premium for Insurance cover will be very low.
- The borrower who avails this scheme at the time of entry, will get a benefit of Single Premium for the entire tenure of the loan.
- In case of death of the borrower during the term of cover, outstanding loan is set off against the policy proceeds settled by SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd
- If the amount of death claim exceeds the outstanding loan, the excess is paid to the nominee of the member.

3. Rekha to receive Yash Chopra Memorial Award
The Veteran Bollywood actress Rekha to be honoured with Yash Chopra Memorial Award for the year 2015. She is third recipient of this award. The award has been given by TSR Foundation of T Subbrami Reddy. The actress will be given the honour on February 2016 by the Governor of Maharashtra in Mumbai.

4. Rannotsav festival in the Rann of Kutch
Rann utsav is a festival of Deserts with the full moon light is being celebrated this year in the Kutch lands of Gujarat. The Government of Gujarat hosts an annual 3 month long festival where people can see different sights of deserts and to know about the culture of Kutch and Gujarat. Rannutsav hosts activities such as Horse Rides, Camel Safaris to Bird Watching, Archery etc ans also exhibits various forms of handicrafts done by the people.

5. NASA’s Curiosity finds silica deposits on Mars
Nasa’s Mars Curiosity rover has found high concentrations of silica—a rock-forming chemical commonly seen on Earth as quartz. Curiosity found much higher concentrations of silica at some sites it has studied in the past seven months than anywhere else it has visited since landing on Mars 40 months ago. Silica makes up nine-tenths of the composition of some of the rocks. It is a rock-forming chemical combining the elements silicon and oxygen, commonly seen on Earth as quartz, but also in many other minerals
6. Sports Personality of the Year: Dan Carter wins 2015 Overseas award
Rugby World Cup-winning fly-half Dan Carter has been named 2015 BBC Overseas Sports Personality of the Year. He beat Novak Djokovic, Katie Ledecky, Usain Bolt, Jordan Spieth and Serena Williams after the award was decided by a public vote for the first time. Carter, 33, was an integral part of the New Zealand team that beat Australia 34-17 to win the World Cup in October. The highest ever points scorer in Test rugby, he won the World Player of the Year award for a third time in 2015.

7. UN adopts resolution on Syrian peace process
The UN security council has unanimously agreed a resolution endorsing an international roadmap for a peace process in Syria, a rare show of unity among major powers on a conflict that has claimed more than 250,000 lives. The resolution came after Russia and the US clinched a deal on a text. The two powers have had very different views on what should happen in Syria, where Islamic State militants control considerable territory.

8. Caitlyn Jenner named most fascinating person of 2015
Caitlyn Jenner has been named the “most fascinating person” of 2015 by Barbara Walters on her annual ABC special. Jenner’s name topped a list that included Amy Schumer, Bradley Cooper, Tracy Morgan, Misty Copeland, Bernie Sanders, Donna Karan, Ronda Rousey, Jeff Bezos and Donald Trump
Walters cited Jenner’s bravery in publicly announcing her transition from a man to a woman and being a voice for the transgender community and enlightening the pubic on transgender issues.

9. Obama signs Omnibus spending bill into law
President Obama has signed a $1.1 trillion funding bill that will keep the federal government running until September 30, 2016. The Senate gave final congressional approval to the bill, which includes nearly $700 billion in tax breaks. The Senate adopted the Omnibus Appropriations Act by a vote of 65-33; the House did so by a 316-113 tally. The law comes as a shock for the Indian IT companies as they would have to pay millions of dollars while applying for H-1B visas, as they heavily rely on this work visa for highly skilled IT workers to get their work done in the US.
Indian IT companies have termed it as highly discriminatory and punitive as the text of the legislation has been written in such a way that such a high fee would have to be paid by only major Indian IT companies.

10. German 3D printing manufacturer opens unit in India
A leading German manufacturer of industrial 3D printing systems has opened a unit in India following a growing demand for its products in the country. The German company voxeljet has established the new voxeljet subsidiary in Pune as part of its plan to expand global presence. The global popularity and acceptance of the 3D printing technology has led to growing interest in 3D printers and on-demand parts services on the part of the Indian industry.
One of the world’s leading providers of industrial 3D solutions, voxeljet wants to build up a strong market position in India, the company said. Nidhi Shah is the Managing Director of the new unit which will seek to promote the development of an operational presence in the market.

11. US lifts 40-year-old ban on oil export
The United States lifted a 40-year-old ban on export of oil, thus paving the way for energy deficient countries like India to open up another frontier to import oil from a distant friendly nation. The ban was lifted as President Barack Obama today signed into law the Omnibus USD 1.8 trillion spending package and tax bill for the current fiscal ending on September 30, 2016. The move was welcomed by the industry, while pro- environmental groups were critical of it.

12. India’s biggest wildlife rescue centre commissioned in Nagpur
Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis has dedicated India’s biggest wildlife rescue centre, spread in 30 hectares in Gorewada, to wildlife lovers. This place will be a big asset for entire Vidarbha region where man-animal conflict is at its peak. The foundation stone for rescue centre was laid by former chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on February 26, 2013, with August 10, 2104, as deadline.

14. Uttar Pradesh government bans use of polythene bags across the State
Seeking to make Uttar Pradesh an environemt-friendly place, the state government has decided to enforce the ban on the use of polythene across the state, a month after the Allahabad High Courts direction to prohibit its usage. A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Akhilesh here. The administration, however has not specified the timeline as to when the ban will come into force. Recently the Allahabad High Court had directed the state government to issue a notification enforcing complete ban on the sale of polythene across the state by December 31 this year.

15. Renowned theatre artiste Chatla Sriramulu passes away
Renowned theatre artiste and writer Chatla Sriramulu, (84) has passed away at Secunderabad Railway Hospital. Born in Vijayawada on December 5, 1931, he worked with the Railways in early days of his career. But his interest in acting drew him towards the theatre, where he grew as one of the well known personalities of his generation. Sriramulu acted and directed more than 100 plays and wrote several books. With his unique acting skills, he went on performing on stage across the country and abroad also.

16. R K Mathur appointed as Chief Information Commissioner
Former Defence Secretary RK Mathur has been appointed as Chief Information Commissioner (CIC), breaking away from the convention of appointing the head from among the serving Information Commissioners. He will have tenure of about three years, till he attains the age of 65 years. The post had fallen vacant after Vijai Sharma completed his tenure on December 1.

17. Jimmy Hill: Former Match of the Day presenter dies aged 87
Former Match of the Day presenter Jimmy Hill, one of English football’s most influential figures, died on Saturday at the age of 87. As chairman of the Professional Footballers’ Association, he led the campaign for the scrapping of maximum wages for professional footballers. He played 297 games for Fulham and was later manager and chairman at Coventry. Hill – diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008 – made more than 600 appearances as presenter of Match of the Day.
18. MS Dhoni to lead India in ICC World T20 2016
MS Dhoni will remain India’s skipper in the ICC World T20 2016 was confirmed during the selection meeting where India’s squad for the upcoming tour of Australia 205-16 was announced. Secretary of Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Anurag Thakur revealed the news about Dhoni’s captaincy thereby ending the speculations of handing the role to Virat Kohli or the mega event. India is going to host the T20 world Cup for the very first time next year in March.
