December 14 – National Energy Conservation Day

National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year in India on 14th December. The main aim of National Energy Conservation Day is to create awareness among the people about the significance of our energy resources and also to minimize the energy consumption. The Energy Conservation Act (EC Act) was enacted in 2001 with the goal of reducing energy intensity of Indian economy. Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) was set up as the statutory body on 1st March 2002 at the central level to facilitate the implementation of the EC Act.

Fossil fuels, Crude oil, Coal, natural gas and etc generate sufficient energy for the use in daily life but increasing the demands of it day by day creates the fear of reducing or diminishing the natural resources. Energy conservation is the only way which helps in replacing the non-renewable resources of energy with the renewable energy. Our Central and State Government has implemented many schemes to enhance energy conservation in India.

This year Minister of Power and Energy Mr. Piyush Goyal Launched a mobile app on the occasion of the National Energy Conservation Day, to help consumers compare and choose energy efficient appliances. The mobile application will allow consumers to instantly compare personalized energy savings across all products of a specific class and thus enable them to choose more efficient products available in the market.

The Southern Railway has won the ‘National Energy Conservation Award-2015’ instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency.
