The Government of India is all set to launch India’s first channel for farmers – DD Kisan. The 24/7 channel will be launched on May 26. In the 2014 union budget, the first announcement was made about the channel. According to the TOI, PM Narendra Modi could launch the Farmer’s channel at a farmers’ rally, which is plannedon May 26 in Uttar Pradesh.
The DD Kisan will give National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, daily market rates for commodities and weather updates everyday. Many agriculture experts will share their views with the people everyday via the channel. The channel is also expected to talk about government campaigns like ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ on improving the child sex ratio and Swachch Bharat.
In the initial phase, the channel will broadcast live program every day for 3.5 hours. It include,
- One hour of mandi and weather reports
- One hour of agricultural issues, horticulture, animal husbandry
- One hour of phone-in on core agricultural issues
- Half an hour of news bulletin.
Prasar Bharati also plans to dub or sub-title select programmes for regional centres.
