1. PM Modi Inaugurates ‘World Food India 2023’ in New Delhi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the second edition of ‘World Food India 2023’ at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi recently.
During the inauguration, the Prime Minister also extended Seed Capital Assistance to over one lakh members of Self Help Groups (SHGs) to strengthen these groups. This support, marked by superior packaging and high-quality manufacturing, aims to enable SHGs to command better prices in the market.
2. NASA Apollo astronaut Thomas Kenneth Mattingly II passed away at the age of 87
Ken Mattingly, the renowned astronaut best known for his vital role in the safe return of the damaged Apollo 13 spacecraft to Earth, has passed away at the age of 87.
His contributions to space exploration, both on the ground and in orbit, have left an indelible mark on NASA’s history.
Ken Mattingly, a former Navy pilot, began his journey with NASA in 1966, dedicating himself to the cause of space exploration. His early work included contributions to the development of the spacesuit and backpack used during the Apollo moon missions, showcasing his commitment to astronaut safety.
3. State Food Safety Index 2022- 2023
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) recently released the State Food Safety Index (SFSI) 2022-2023, which assesses the performance of Indian states and union territories in ensuring food safety.
This annual evaluation employs a dynamic benchmarking model to measure food safety across all regions objectively.
Tamil Nadu emerged as the leading state in consumer empowering initiatives, followed by Kerala and Madhya Pradesh.
4. Thailand Announces Visa-Free Entry For Indians to Boost Tourism
Thailand is taking steps to revitalize its tourism industry by allowing visa-free entry for the citizens of India and Taiwan. This move comes as the high season approaches and is part of a broader strategy to attract more visitors to the country.
Thailand had previous visa requirements for Chinese tourists, a significant source of visitors before the pandemic.
5. Shiv Nadar Tops the Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023
HCLTech founder Shiv Nadar and his family have retained the top spot on the EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List 2023.
For the fiscal year 2022-23, they made a substantial donation of Rs 2,042 crore, marking the fifth consecutive year that Nadar, aged 78, has claimed this distinguished rank.
6. Rajendra Menon Re-elected as Chairman of Armed Forces Tribunal
Former Chief Justice Rajendra Menon of the Delhi High Court has been re-elected as the Chairman of the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) for a four-year term, ensuring his leadership until June 6, 2027.
This marks his second consecutive term as Chairman, having initially been nominated for the position in 2019.
Justice Menon began his judicial career as an additional judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 1, 2002, and his dedication and expertise led to his elevation to the position of permanent judge on March 21, 2003.
7. Eminent Writer T. Padmanabhan Receives Prestigious Kerala Jyothi Award
Kerala government has selected renowned writer T. Padmanabhan as the recipient of the prestigious Kerala Jyothi Award.
This highest civilian honor in the state was awarded to Padmanabhan in recognition of his exceptional contributions to Malayalam literature.
The Kerala government has also announced several other accolades, known as the ‘Kerala Puraskarngals,’ which are bestowed upon individuals who have made remarkable contributions to various aspects of social life.
Among the notable awardees are Justice (Retired) M. Fathima Beevi and Nataraja Krishnamurthy, also known as Soorya Krishnamurthy.
