1. Next Khelo India Youth Games to begin in Madhya Pradesh

The next Khelo India Youth Games will occur in Madhya Pradesh on 30 January 2023, with many Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) Development athletes competing.
This increases the significance of the games since the TOPS athletes, who are already worldwide performers, will motivate grassroots players to lift the ante and give fierce competition.

2. Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Mughal garden to be renamed Amrit Udyan

  • The Mughal Gardens in New Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan were christened ‘Amrit Udyan’ by the Central Government on January 28, 2023.
    In keeping with the concept of ‘Amrit Mahotsav,’ which marks the 75th anniversary of India’s independence, the Central government renamed Mughal Gardens Amrit Udyan.

3. U-19 Women’s t20 World Cup 2023: India won title by defeating England in finals

  • On January 29, 2023, India defeated England by seven wickets in an entertaining one-sided final in South Africa.
  • This is the first global championship for a women’s cricket team. The BCCI has also set a prize fund of £500,000 for the squad.
  • India, which was chasing a meager 69, lost Shafali Verman and Shweta Sehrawat early on. However, G Trisha and Soumya Tiwari formed a strong alliance to lead India home.

4. Germany bagged Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 title

  • Germany won the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2023 on January 29, 2023, beating Belgium 5-4 in a penalty shootout at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, India.
  • The result was 3-3 at the end of normal time, with Florent Van Aubel (10′), Tanguy Cosyns (11′), and Tom Boon (59′) scoring for Belgium.
  • Niklas Wellen (29′), Gonzalo Peillat (41′), and Mats Grambusch (48′) scored for Germany.

5. National Anti-Leprosy Day 2023 is observed on January 30

India is fighting hard to eliminate leprosy. The country has set a target of eliminating the disease completely by 2027. The set target is three years ahead of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. To aid the fight against Leprosy in the country and to create awareness about the disease India is marking National Anti–Leprosy Day on January 30.

6. New Zealand to introduce Debbie H. Medal to honour women cricketers

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) has announced that outstanding women’s cricketer will be honoured with the inaugural Debbie Hockley Medal at this year’s annual cricket awards ceremony.

Debbie, regarded as one of the world’s best batters during her playing days and one of the finest to have played the game, played 118 ODIs and 19 Tests for New Zealand from 1979 to 2000.

7. World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day observed on 30th January

World Neglected Tropical Diseases Day (World NTD Day) is observed on January 30 every year to raise awareness about neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) as a critical public health challenge so that we can progress towards their elimination.

2023 theme is “Act Now. Act Together. Invest in Neglected Tropical Diseases”.

8. India’s First Green Solar Panel Factory to Build by Luminous in Uttarakhand

Luminous Power Technologies revealed that it has planned to build India’s first green energy-based solar panel manufacturing plant in Uttarakhand which will be operational by the end of this year.

The location of the new India’s first green energy-based solar panel is Rudrapur which will be equipped with the latest technology to design and produce high-quality solar panels that will be used for both residential and commercial applications.

9. Microsoft Invests $10 Billion in ChatGPT Maker OpenAI

Microsoft announced a new multiyear, multibillion-dollar investment with ChatGPT-maker OpenAI. Microsoft Corp. will be making a $10 billion worth investment in OpenAI, the research lab behind the famous ChatGPT and DALL-E.

The deal marks the third phase of the partnership between the two companies, following Microsoft’s previous investments in 2019 and 2021. Microsoft said the renewed partnership will accelerate breakthroughs in AI and help both companies commercialize advanced technologies in the future.

10. Australian Open 2023

The 2023 Australian Open was a Grand Slam level tennis tournament held at Melbourne Park, from 16–29 January 2023. It was the 111th edition of the Australian Open, the 55th in the Open Era, and the first major of the year. There is a total prize pot of AUD $76.5 million (around £43.3m) for the Australian Open 2023.
