1. DGCA: Domestic Air Traffic increases in India

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation releases reports on all Indian carriers on monthly basis. According to the recently released report of January 2023, air traffic has increased significantly.

  • As compared to 2022, the growth of air traffic has increased by 95%.
  • More than 12.5 million passengers travelled in January 2023.
  • In January 2022, the Omicron wave affected air traffic.
  • Only 6.4 million passengers used air transport in 2022.

Indian Airline Rank:

  • IndiGo is the largest airliner in the country. However, the market value of the airlines has been decreasing in recent times
  • The Air-India was the second largest airline. It holds 9.2% of air traffic in the country. Under the reigns of TATA, Air India has set a target to conquer 30% of the air travel market
  • Vistara was the third largest airline in the country. VISTARA is a joint venture of TATA and Singapore Airlines.

2. First Semiconductor plant of India

The Vedanta group and the Foxconn of Taiwan have come together to build the first semiconductor manufacturing unit in Dholera of Gujarat.

The companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Gujarat Government. According to the agreement, they will invest Rs 1,54,000 crores in this project.

The semiconductor plant will be built in the Dholera Special Investment Region in Ahmedabad. It is a greenfield industrial city.

3. India-Singapore link Digital Payments UPI and PAYNOW

UPI is the mobile payment method in India. Similarly, PAYNOW is a mobile payment method in Singapore. The countries have planned to link these two mobile payment methods. The linking was done virtually inaugurated by the RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das and the MD of the Monetary Authority of Singapore Ravi Menon.

With the linkage, the residents of both countries can transfer money at faster rates. Migrant workers and students will be benefitted the most.

4. Cross Dependency Initiative: 9 Indian states most vulnerable to climate risks

The Cross Dependency Initiative is a business consultant that specializes in climate risk. It released a report on “Gross Domestic Climate Risk”.

According to the report, the top 50 provinces facing climate risks are China, the US, and India.

  • It says nine Indian states are most vulnerable to climate risks. They are Punjab, UP, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, TN, Gujarat, Kerala, and Assam. Mumbai has the highest risk of all.
  • 26 provinces in China, 9 in India, and 5 in the US are the most vulnerable of all.

5. International Mother Language Day 2023

International Mother Language Day is celebrated on February 21. The main objective of celebrating the day is to increase the overall literacy level of the world.

More than 40% of the world’s population is unable to receive education in their mother tongue.

6. Rajesh Rai named as CMD of ITI Limited

Rajesh Rai has been appointed as Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of Indian Telephone Industries Limited (ITI Ltd), a PSU under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The Central Government has approved his appointment.

  • ITI Limited is a PSU in the telecommunications technology segment established as a departmental factory in 1948.

7. World’s Highest Weather Station Rebuilt on Mount Everest

The world’s highest altitude weather station was destroyed due to hurricane-force winds on Mount Everest and a team of scientists and Sherpa have again placed its new version atop Mount Everest.

The group has been led by a 31-year-old electrician and mountain guide Tenzing Gyalzen Sherpa.

According to the Guinness World Records report, the team of mountaineers and scientists has installed a record-breaking weather station at an altitude of 8,810 meters just 39 meters (128 ft) below Everest’s summit.

8. India’s lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 accomplishes another achievement

India’s lunar mission, Chandrayaan-3 has successfully underwent EMI-EMC (Electro-Magnetic Interference/ Electro-Magnetic Compatibility).

The EMI-EMC test is conducted for satellite missions to ensure functionality of the satellite subsystems in the space environment and their compatibility with the expected electromagnetic levels. The test was conducted between January 31 and February 2 at U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bengaluru.

9. APJ Abdul Kalam Satellite Launch Vehicle Mission-2023 launched from Tamil Nadu

The Martin Foundation in association with Dr APJ Abdul Kalam International Foundation and Space Zone India launched the APJ Abdul Kalam Satellite Launch Vehicle Mission-2023 from the Pattipolam village of Chengalpattu district in Tamil Nadu.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan was also present at the event.

10. Khajuraho Dance Festival is Organized in Madhya Pradesh

The seven-day 49th Khajuraho Dance Festival will begin with Bharatnatyam and kathak at the temple declared as UNESCO heritage.

The annual event of the Khajuraho Dance Festival is being organized by Ustad Allauddin Khan Sangeet Evam Kala Akademi and the directorate of culture in association with the tourism department and the Archaeological Survey of India.

Bharatanatyam dance will be presented by Janki Rangarajan, whereas Kathak-Bharatnatyam will be presented by Dhirendra Tiwari, Aprajita Sharma, and Kathak by Prachi Shah respectively.

11. Bank of Maharashtra tops list of public sector lenders in loan growth, asset quality

Bank of Maharashtra (BoM) has emerged as the top performer among state-owned lenders in terms of loan growth percentage during the third quarter of 2022-23, an analysis of the latest financial results of public sector banks showed.

The Pune-based lender recorded a 21.67 per cent increase in gross advances on a year-on-year basis, according to the latest quarterly numbers of the public sector bank

  • Country’s largest lender State Bank of India (SBI) stood at fourth spot with 16.91 per cent rise in advances growth.
