1. Anupam Kher receives Kala Ratan Award from Vice President
Veteran actor Anupam Kher will be honoured with the Kala Ratan Award by Vice President Hamid Ansari.Anupam Kher was honoured him the Padma Shri in 2004 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016 for his contribution in the field of cinema and arts.
The actor who has worked mainly in Hindi films has also appeared in acclaimed international films like Bend It Like Beckham, Bride and Prejudice, The Mistress Of Spices, Ang Lee’s Lust, Caution, and David O. Russell’s 2013 Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook.
2. Randeep Guleria appointed as Director of AIIMS, New Delhi
Doctor Randeep Guleria, head of the department of pulmonary medicine, has been appointed the director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Guleria will take over from Dr MC Mishra, who headed the institute for three years. The appointments committee of the cabinet has approved the appointment of Randeep Guleria, professor and head, department of pulmonary medicine and sleep disorders at AIIMS, New Delhi, to the post of Director, AIIMS

3. 27th March: World Theatre Day
World Theatre Day was initiated in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI), France. It is celebrated annually on the 27th March by ITI Centres and the international theater community. The first World Theatre Day Message was written by Jean Cocteau in 1962.WTD is organized by International Theatre Institute (ITI). ITI is headquartered in Paris, France.

4. Govt can’t make Aadhaar mandatory for welfare schemes: SC
The Supreme Court has made it clear that Aadhaar cards could not be made mandatory by the government and its agencies for extending benefits of social welfare schemes. A bench comprising Chief Justice JS Khehar and Justices DY Chandrachud and SK Kaul, however, said the government and its agencies could not be stopped from seeking Aadhaar cards for non-welfare schemes like opening of bank accounts.

5. IIIT (Amendment) Bill, 2017 introduced in Lok Sabha
The Centre has approved for introduction of The Indian Institutes of Information Technology (Amendment) bill, 2017 in Parliament. The amendment bill provides for inclusion of Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kurnool along with the other IITs in the principal act. Subsequently, IITDM Kurnool will be declared as an institute of National Importance with the power to award degrees to students

6. International finance branch to be opened by Axis Bank at GIFT City Gandhinagar

  • Axis Bank is planning to open an international finance branch at the International Financial Services Center (IFSC) in Gujarat International Finance Tech (GIFT) City.
  • Axis Bank is the third largest private sector bank in India. Axis Bank offers the entire spectrum of services to customer segments covering Large and Mid-Corporates, SME, Agriculture and Retail Businesses.
    Currently, leading private and public sector banks from the country – Yes Bank, ICICI Bank, Federal Bank, IDBI Bank, IndusInd Bank, State Bank of India and Kotak Mahindra Bank – have set up their international banking units in GIFT SEZ, doing business transactions of over $1 billion.

7. Minister of Railways inaugurates Conference on Digital Railways for Digital India
A conference under the theme “IR-One ICT (One Information and Communication Technology) Building Digital Railway for Digital India” was organized on 27.03.2017 at National Rail Museum Auditorium, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. The conference was inaugurated by Minister of Railways Shri Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu.

8. GIC to be first PSU general insurer to launch IPO
General Insurance Corporation (GIC Re) is likely to be the first PSU insurer to tap the capital market as the finance ministry has started scouting for merchant bankers to manage its IPO. Two months after the Union cabinet gave a go ahead to the listing of five general insurance companies, the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) has set the ball rolling for listing of GIC Re.

9. India and Vietnam to strengthen bilateral relations through medium of Cinema
Minister for Information & Broadcasting has said that collaboration in the field of Films, Broadcasting and Information Dissemination would strengthen the ties between India and Vietnam. Cooperation in the field of institutional capacity building in social media, student exchange programs between premier institutes of both the countries in the field of journalism and films would bring the two countries close. He mentioned this while meeting the Vietnamese delegation led by Minister of Information and Communications, Government of Vietnam Mr. Truong Minh Tuan.

10. Shuttlers Purva Barve, Varun Kapur bag international titles at Li Ning-Israel Open
Shuttlers Purva Barve and Varun Kapur handed India double delight by winning their respective age group sections in the Li Ning-Israel Open 2017. The tournament was held at the Sports Hall, Rishon LeZion in Israel. Both Pune-based Nikhil Kanetkar Badminton Academy (NKBA) cadets made short work of their rivals and won one-sided final encounters

11. Kolkata to host India’s first ever FIFA U-17 World Cup final
The iconic Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata has been named as the venue for the final of the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup, which will be held in India from October 6-28. The decision was taken after a FIFA delegation completed a week-long inspection of the six venues. The semi-finals of the tournament will be held in Guwahati and Navi Mumbai, while the opening games will be held in New Delhi and Navi Mumbai.

12. West Bengal win Santosh Trophy for 32nd time
West Bengal lifted the Santosh Trophy for the 32nd time after Manvir Singh struck in the 119th minute for a 1-0 win over Goa, extending their domination in the premier domestic football tournament. West Bengal, thus, ended a six-year wait having last won the title in 2011. Goa last won it in 2009.

13. Bhubaneswar to host men’s Hockey World Cup 2018
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) and Government of Odisha have officially confirmed that the Men’s Hockey World League Final 2017 and Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 will be held in Bhubaneswar, India. Fans will descend upon the Kalinga Stadium to share the glory of two of hockey’s biggest events, where World League and World Cup champions will be crowned.
