Stems Cells result in Disheartening-Study

Stem cell therapy that held promise for treating heart attack and heart failure fails to live up to its expectations. Though initial trials conducted on animals and select patients did show some positive results, a study led by AIIMS and Army (Research and Referral) Hospital on over 250 patients has concluded there is no significant benefit of injecting stem cells to improve the heart function.

Music Composer Aadesh Passes Away

Music composer Aadesh Shrivastava who was battling cancer passed away on Saturday, 4th September 2015. He was 51. Aadesh died in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. He is survived by wife Vijeta Panditand two sons Anivesh and Avitesh. He undergone chemotherapy for many days. The funeral will be done at Oshiwara crematorium.

Germany, Austria welcome over 7,000 refugees from Hungary

Germany anticipates up to 7,000 refugees and migrants pouring across its borders from Hungary. It has become a final stop for asylum seekers fleeing war and poverty in their homelands. Most of them are arriving this weekend in the German state of Bavaria, which borders Austria, and authorities are organizing buses and trains to take them to other states.

PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the Delhi-Faridabad Metro Line

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the extension of the Badarpur line that will connect the satellite city of Faridabad to the national capital. The launch of the section would allow hassle-free travel for around two lakh daily commuters between the national capital and the industrial hub in Haryana.

Snapdeal to invest USD 100-mn in Shopo

E-commerce major Snapdeal will invest USD 100 million (about Rs 665 crore) in Shopo, which was launched in July. Shopo is a mobile-only platform, which aims to bring small and medium businesses (SMBs) that cannot register on bigger e-commerce portals. Snapdeal looks to build up the recently launched venture into a one million seller-strong platform.

India’s Gagan Narang becomes Asia Number one in Men’s 50m Rifle

India’s Olympic medal-winning shooter Gagan Narang has achieved the number one spot in the Asian rankings of the men’s 50m rifle prone category. The 32-year-old Narang has rediscovered his old form and has 971 points to his credit while China’s Shengbo Zhao is placed second with 896 points.

Apurvi Clinches silver at World Cup Finals

Young Indian shooter Apurvi Chandela once again proved herself as she clinched the silver medal in women’s 10m air rifle event of the ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Finals on 3rd September 2015 in Munich, Germany. She finished second on the podium after she tallied 206.9, just 0.6 behind Ahmadi Elaheh of Iran.

SAV Satya Murty is the new Director of IGCAR

Dr. S.A.V. Satya Murty will take over as the next Director of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) as well as the Director of General Services Organisation (GSO) of the nuclear complex located at Kalpakkam. He succeeded Dr. P.R. Vasudeva Rao.

Japan reopens radiation-hit town

Japan has invited residents to return to a town evacuated in 2011 after the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster. Naraha is the first town to allow people to return permanently, following several years of decontamination work. The Fukushima Daiichi plant suffered a series of meltdowns following a massive earthquake and tsunami. After the disaster, over seven thousand residents of Naraha moved out. Some 100,000 people in the area are still unable to return to their homes.

No legal limit to asylum seekers Germany can take: Merkel

Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel said that her country won’t stop anyone from seeking asylum, as thousands of migrants desperate to leave Hungary made their way westward to Germany and Austria. German officials recently predicted that up to 800,000 migrants would arrive by the end of the year, many of them refugees fleeing war and persecution in Syria, Iraq and Eritrea.

Joshana gets hurt but wins women’s title

National champion Joshana Chinappa clinched the women’s title in the USD 15,000 NSCI Open JSW Indian Squash Circuit 2015 after upstaging Egyptian top seed Habiba Mohammad in straight games in the final. Joshana, ranked 24th in the world currently, defeated Habiba 11-8 11-9 11-6 in a tough title-clash.

New numbering system in Rs 1,000 note

A new numbering system and seven new security features will be incorporated in all currency notes, especially in high denomination Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes, in order to check the menace of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN). The Bhartiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Pvt Limited (BRBNMPL) and Security Printing and Minting Corporation of India Limited (SPMCIL) have initiated steps for introduction of the revised number pattern.

The government has approved seven new security features, details of which are not yet known.

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson retires from test cricket after new injury

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson has announced his retirement from Test cricket, effective immediately. Watson, an often maligned figure within the Australian team, retires after 59 Tests, 3,731 runs at 35.19 and 75 wickets since his debut in 2005.

G20 launches W20 grouping for Gender Inclusive Economic Growth

The G20, World’s 20 largest economies, including India, has launched W20, an engagement grouping of women leaders, to push for gender inclusive global economic growth. The W20 group will have 20 women leaders from G20 nations. The W20 group would host its first summit on October 2015 in Istanbul after all member countries appoint their nominees.
