1. Indra Nooyi memoir “The secrets to balancing work and family life”

In her book, My Life in Full: Work, Family and our Future, Indra Nooyi focuses on the importance that organisational support plays in working women’s lives. For instance, she lists the offer of three months of paid leave by BCG to take care of her father in India when he was diagnosed with cancer.

2. Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment launches Elder Line

Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment has launched India’s first Pan-India helpline for senior citizens named ‘Elder Line’ for which the toll-free number is 14567. The platform will allow senior citizens to connect and share their concerns, get information and guidance on problems that they face on a day-to-day basis.

3. Ranveer Singh Named India’s NBA Brand Ambassador

The National Basketball Association (NBA) has named Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh as its brand ambassador for India. He will work with the NBA to help grow the league’s profile in India throughout its landmark 75th anniversary season in 2021-22. For the 2021-22 season, Singh will participate in a number of league initiatives that will be featured on NBA India’s and his personal social media accounts.

4. Lok Sabha Speaker Launches ‘NIDHI 2.0’ Scheme

The Speaker of Lok Sabha, Om Birla has inaugurated the NIDHI 2.0 (National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry) scheme, during an event organised by the Ministry of Tourism, on the occasion of 2021 World Tourism Day. The NIDHI 2.0 database will have more inclusivity, by not only including accommodation units, but also travel agents, tour operators, & others.

5. North Korea tests fire hypersonic missile “Hwasong-8”

North Korea successfully tested a new hypersonic missile called Hwasong-8, in a bid to increase the nation’s capabilities for self-defence. The missile was one of the five most important new weapons systems laid out by North Korea in the five-year military development plan. This was the country’s third missile test in a month. Earlier it tested a new type of cruise missile, as well as a new train-launched ballistic missile system.

6. World Maritime Day 2021: 30 September

World Maritime Day 2021 is observed globally on 30th September. The exact date of celebrating World Maritime Day is left to the individual governments but is usually celebrated during the last week in September.

The theme of World Maritime Day 2021 is “Seafarers at the core of shipping’s future”.

7. International Translation Day: 30 September

Every year, International Translation Day is marked on 30 September. The International Federation of Translators (FIT) organise the day ever since it was set up in 1953. The day aims to celebrate the work of language translation professionals which facilitates dialogue, understanding and cooperation, contributing to the development and strengthening of world peace and security.

8. CavinKare CMD CK Ranganathan named as new AIMA president

Chairman & managing director CavinKare Pvt Ltd, CK Ranganathan has been appointed president of All India Management Association (AIMA) for a period of one year till the National Management Convention is held in September 2022.

He takes over from Harsh Pati Singhania, vice chairman & managing director, JK Paper Ltd. Under his leadership, technology will drive AIMA”s services and the new initiatives would include face recognition tools for admission and recruitment testing

9. NASA Lucy Mission: First Spacecraft to study Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids

NASA is set to launch Lucy, the first spacecraft to study Jupiter’s Trojan asteroids on October 16, 2021. The Lucy spacecraft is scheduled to be launched on an Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida.

NASA’s Juno spacecraft has been orbiting Jupiter since 2016 but the Lucy spacecraft will be the first expedition by NASA to study the Trojan asteroids that orbit the Sun in two swarms, one leading ahead of Jupiter and other trailing behind the planet.

10. Union Cabinet approved listing of ECGC IPO; investment of Rs. 4,400 crores in next 5 years

The Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal informed on September 29, 2021, that the Union Cabinet has approved the listing of state-owned Export Credit Guarantee Corporation (ECGC) Ltd through the Initial Public Offer (IPO) on the Stock Exchange.

11. India to participate in SCO anti-terror exercise in Pakistan

India will send a three-member team next week to participate in a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) anti-terror exercise in Pakistan. The anti-terror exercise is reportedly scheduled to be held in Pabbi in Pakistan’s Nowshera district from October 3rd.

The exercise will be conducted under SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS), which aims to promote cooperation in counter-terrorism between all the SCO member-states.

12. ‘PM POSHAN’ to be continued in Schools

Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of PM POSHAN scheme in Schools, which is a Centrally Sponsored National Scheme.

PM POSHAN scheme would run for five more years. It will run from 2021-2022 to 2025-26. Scheme has been approved with a financial outlay of 54,062 crore rupees from the Central Government.

13. Najla Bouden Romdhane: Tunisia’s first female PM

Najla Bouden Romdhane has become the first female prime minister of Tunisia on September 29, 2021. She has been named as Prime Minister, two months after President Kais Saied assumed his charge, dismissed the former prime minister and suspended parliament.

14. Motor Vehicles (Registration and Functions of Vehicle Scrapping Facility) Rules, 2021

Ministry of road transport and highways announced the detailed procedure of setting “Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility (RVSF)” under the “vehicle scrapping policy”.

Vehicle Scrapping Policy was launched in August 2021 by prime minister Narendra Modi last month.

15. National Action Plan for dog Mediated Rabies Elimination by 2030 (NAPRE)

Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Mansukh Mandaviya and Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Parshottam Rupala released the “National Action Plan for Dog Mediated Rabies Elimination by 2030 (NAPRE)” on the occasion of “World Rabies Day” on September 28, 2021
