- Rajiv Sabharwal to Take Charge as Tata Capital CEO
Tata Capital was announced the appointment of Rajiv Sabharwal as Managing Director & CEO designate of the company.
Sabharwal will be joining Tata Capital in January 2018 and would be taking over from the company’s current Managing Director & CEO Praveen P Kadle, who will be assuming other responsibilities in the Tata Group effective April 1, 2018.
- Madhya Pradesh has won the ‘Best Tourism State’ national award
Madhya Pradesh has won the ‘Best Tourism State’ national award for the third consecutive year.
President Ram Nath Kovind handed over the award, named as ‘Hall of Fame Award’, to Minister of State for Tourism Surendra Patwa at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, a Madhya Pradesh Public Relations Department officer said.
The state bagged total 10 awards in this programme, organised on the occasion of World Tourism Day.
- Andhra Pradesh introduces ‘no helmet, no petrol’ rule
‘No helmet, no petrol’ rule for two-wheeler riders to reduce road accident deaths has come into force in Andhra Pradesh, with chief minister Chandrababu Naidu urging all the petrol bunk dealers to cooperate.
Chandrababu has sanctioned Rs.10 crore for equipment to implement this rule. He also ordered the officials to conduct a weekly check on the motorists for effective implementation of the rule.
- Karnataka govt launches subsidised religious tourism scheme
The Karnataka government has announced a scheme to provide subsidised religious tourism packages for places in and around the state.
The scheme was launched by CM Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha to mark World Tourism Day.
- Maharashtra plans to convert INS Viraat into naval museum
The Maharashtra government has changed its plans for INS Viraat, the aircraft carrier the Indian Navy decommissioned earlier this year.
It now wants a part of it to be converted in to a naval museum that will be located at Vasai creek near Mumbai and use the rest of the warship for events. The state has sent a letter to the defence ministry for permission to implement decision.
- India Jumps to 14th Rank as Best Country for Expats: HSBC Survey
India leapt up the global rankings by 12 places to take the 14th spot in terms of best country for expats to live and work in, says a HSBC survey.
The list, which is topped by Singapore, is part of HSBC’s latest ‘expat explorer survey’ that covered 27,587 expats from 159 countries and territories in March and April this year.
- US fines HSBC ₹1,140 crore over “unsafe” forex trading
The U.S. Federal Reserve fined HSBC Holdings PLC (HSBA.L) $175 million for “unsafe and unsound practices” in its foreign exchange trading business, the latest in a series of fines for banks that fail to prevent market manipulation.
HSBC failed to monitor chat rooms where traders swapped information about investment positions, the U.S. central bank said, echoing findings by other regulators investigating the $5 trillion-a-day foreign exchange or FX market.
- BSNL, Aeris Communications partner for IoT solutions
State-run telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd have announced agreement with IoT solutions provider Aeris Communications to jointly tap the Internet of Things market in India.
Under the agreement, both the companies will offer packaged IoT solutions and services to enterprises, small and medium businesses and public sector undertakings, among other segments in India.
- VNL Signs Pact with BSNL for Disaster Management
Telecom equipment and solutions provider VNL has signed a memorandum of understanding with BSNL to provide solutions for disaster management.
The ‘Relief 123’ service will restore connectivity at disaster sites, help locate the affected and integrate information across platforms to enable informed decision-making for quick relief.
- September 28: International Day for Universal Access to Information
In celebration of the second international Day for Universal Access to Information On September 28, the International Programme for the Development of Communication (IPDC) will host ‘IPDCtalks: Powering Sustainable Development with Access to Information.’
The celebration for universal access to information will kick-start in Tunisia on September 25, with a panel event gathering around 250 participants to discuss progress and new initiatives around Tunisia’s Access to Information law.

Veteran theatre and film personality Tom Alter died after losing his battle against stage four skin cancer in Mumbai. He was 67
Tom Alter was born to American parents in Mussoorie and studied at Woodstock School and Yale University. With a gold medal in acting from Pune’s Film and Television Institute, Alter debuted in Bollywood with director Ramanand Sagar’s Charas in 1976.
