1. CIAL won an international award for passenger satisfaction by ACI
Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has been selected as the best airport in the Asia-Pacific region in terms of services it offered to passengers. The airport was recognized by Airport Council International (ACI).
The award was presented to the authorities of Cochin International Airport at the second Annual ACI Customer Experience Global Summit held at Bali, Indonesia.
2. West Bengal Government To Set Up Museum At Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar’s House
West Bengal government plans to set up a museum at the north Kolkata house of 19th century social reformer Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar where he had spent the last few years of his life.
The museum will come up at Vidyasagar’s residence at Badur Bagan area where pictures and models, chronicling his life from his birth place at Birsinghpur village in Paschim Medinipur district to the house in north Kolkata.
3. ‘Tikki Mausi’ mascot: unveiled by Odisha govt. and UNICEF
With an aim to spread awareness about nutrition of children and women, the Department of Women & Child Development and Mission Shakti, Government of Odisha, in collaboration with United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) unveiled a mascot named ‘Tikki Mausi’. The state government initiative highlights that Women and children are central to any welfare programme.
4. Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes 2019
President of India Ram Nath Kovind, presented Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prizes 2019, for outstanding contributions in science and technology at a function held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The awards were presented on the occasion of the 78th Foundation Day of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
5. September 27: World Tourism Day
The United Nations World Tourism Day is celebrated on September 27. The day aims at creating awareness on social, political, cultural and economic values among international community.
6. September 27: Google celebrates its 21st birthday
Google celebrated its 21st birthday on September 27, 2019, with a doodle of a vintage computer and a Google homepage on it.
Google was founded by PhD students Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University. They named its “Googol”. Googol is a mathematical term and it equals to 10 raised to the power of 100.
7. Jacques Chirac, former French president, dies aged 86
The former French president Jacques Chirac, a self-styled affable rogue who had one of the longest political careers in Europe, has died aged 86. For several years he had suffered from memory loss said to be linked to a form of Alzheimer’s disease or to the minor stroke that he had while in office.
8. PT Usha conferred with IAAF Veteran Pin Award
Former Indian athlete and Olympian PT Usha has been conferred with the prestigious International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) Veteran Pin Award. Usha received the award at the 52nd IAAF conference in Doha.
9. Second edition of Singapore India Hackathon to be held at IIT Madras
Second edition of Singapore India Hackathon will be held at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) Madras from September 28 to 29, Ministry of Human Resource Development said.
10. Chinese navy launches its first amphibious assault ship
China has launched its first amphibious assault ship, which would enable ground forces to carry out attacks on enemy territory from sea. The ship was launched in Shanghai, state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
