1. RINL Wins CII-GBC National Energy Leader Award for Sixth Consecutive Year

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the company that runs the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, has once again been recognized for its excellent work in saving energy and using it efficiently. RINL won the prestigious National Energy Leader Award from the Confederation of Indian Industry – Green Business Centre (CII-GBC). This is the sixth year in a row that RINL has received this award, showing how dedicated the company is to using energy in a sustainable and eco-friendly way.

Award Presentation

On the evening of September 12th, in a ceremony held in Hyderabad, the award was presented to K Sudhakar, the General Manager of the Energy Management Department (EMD-I/c), and his team. The award was handed over by Milind Deora, Secretary of the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, which is part of the Ministry of Power, Government of India.

2. India jumps to Tier 1 in Global CyberSecurity Index 2024

India has advanced to Tier 1 in the Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) 2024, released by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). This recognizes India’s significant role as a leader in cybersecurity practices and its strong commitment to improving cybersecurity measures, which have had a positive impact.

The Global Cybersecurity Index (GCI) is a widely respected tool that measures how committed countries are to cybersecurity at a global level. It aims to raise awareness about the importance of cybersecurity and highlights its different aspects, as it touches many industries and sectors. The GCI helps countries understand where they stand and encourages them to strengthen their cybersecurity systems.

3. India Participates in BRICS Literature Forum 2024 in Russia

India participated in the BRICS Literature Forum 2024, which began on September 11th in Kazan, Russia. Kazan’s Mayor, Ilsur Metshin, officially opened the event and focused on the theme “World Literature in the New Reality: Dialogue of Traditions, National Values, and Cultures.”

The forum brought together writers, poets, philosophers, artists, and scholars from BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). India was represented by Madhav Kaushik, President of Sahitya Akademi, and Dr. K. Sreenivasarao, Secretary of Sahitya Akademi.

During the plenary session, Madhav Kaushik delivered a speech on the important role literature plays in today’s world. He emphasized that literature can serve as a bridge to foster unity and cooperation among societies globally. His address highlighted how shared stories, traditions, and cultures can help strengthen connections between nations, even in a rapidly changing world.

4. DRDO Successfully Completes First Phase Trials of Light Tank ‘Zorawar’

On September 13, 2024, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully completed the initial automotive trials of India’s Light Tank, Zorawar. Designed for deployment in high-altitude regions, Zorawar performed exceptionally well in desert conditions during the trials, meeting all the set objectives. It also demonstrated precise firing capabilities, proving its readiness for combat.

Development and Collaboration

The Zorawar tank was developed by DRDO’s Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro Ltd. Many Indian industries, including small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), contributed to this project, highlighting India’s increasing ability to manufacture defense equipment domestically and reduce reliance on imports.
