- Kochi to host summit on coastal shipping and waterways
Kochi will host the fifth edition of Coastal Shipping and Inland Water Transportation Business Summit 2017 on September 22 at Hotel Crown Plaza.
The summit will be an initiative to explore the immense potential of coastal shipping and waterways as well as an effort to build a shared commitment and decipher the role that each stakeholder will have to play in integrating the coastal and waterways transport infrastructure.
- First National Canine Seminar Organized by NSG
The Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju attended the first National Canine Seminar organized by National Security Guard (NSG), in NSG Campus, Manesar (Gurugram), Haryana.
The theme of the two days National Canine Seminar is ‘Canine as Tactical Weapon in Fight against Terrorism’ with an objective to discuss and deliberate on the techniques of dog training and strategies of deploying the dogs in Counter Terrorism/Counter Insurgency scenario.
- Nirmala Sitharaman to Flag off Indian Navy Women Crew’s Attempt to Circle the Globe
Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will flag off the Indian Navy women crew’s attempt to circum navigate the globe in Panaji.
All-women crew of Indian Navy aboard Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV)Tarini from INS Mandovi jetty in Goa.
It is the first attempt by an Indian all-women crew to circum navigate the globe.
The expedition will cover Australia, New Zealand, Falklands and South Africa.It is expected to be completed by 160 days.
- Country’s First ‘Nutrition Atlas’ Comes Online
India currently faces twin challenges in the nutrition sector – under nutrition manifesting causing several health problems and, second, exacerbating the consequences of being overweight and obese.
In order to provide a snapshot of all relevant data and information about nutrition, the Hyderabad-based National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) has developed the country’s first “nutrition atlas”.
The nutrition atlas provides information and data on the nutritional status of population groups at national and state levels, along with an overview of nutrition-related deficiencies, disorders and prevalence levels in various parts of the country.
- Online platform for MUDRA loans on the cards
Micro Units Development & Refinance Agency Ltd (MUDRA) is toying with the idea of setting up an online platform to help more micro units across the country avail MUDRA loans for their operations.
The proposed platform would not only focus on making it easier for micro units to apply and avail MUDRA loans, but also use analytics so that lenders also get more information about the borrowers, Jiji Mammen, Managing Director & CEO, MUDRA.
- India-made anti-tank guided missile Nag successfully tested
India has announced it successfully flight tested indigenously-made Nag anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) against two different targets at firing ranges in Rajasthan.
A defence ministry spokesperson said the third-generation ATGM was successfully flight tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation.
The ATGM Nag has successfully hit both the targets under different ranges and conditions with very high accuracy as desired by the armed forces.
- Second Indian Workers’ Resource Centre Inaugurated in UAE
Indians in the UAE now have one more support centre to address their grievances.
The Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Singh Suri afternoon opened the Indian Workers’ Resource Centre (IWRC) in Sharjah.
The Sharjah Centre on the 22nd floor of Damas Tower (Burj 2000) opposite the Central Post Office is the second office of the IWRC in the UAE after the one in Dubai that currently caters to Indians in all seven emirates.
- Prince Charles Becomes Longest-Serving Prince of Wales
Charles, the heir to Britain’s throne, became the longest-serving Prince of Wales in history.
The 68-year-old broke the record of Queen Victoria’s oldest son Albert, who went on to become King Edward VII after holding the title of Prince of Wales for more than 59 years before becoming monarch.
Charles, who turns 69 in November, is already the oldest heir apparent. However, as Albert known in the family as Bertie was made Prince of Wales when he was barely a month old, while Prince Charles was not given the title until July 1958, when he was nine, it has taken until now for him to overtake his great-great-grandfather.
- China, Pakistan Agree to Boost Anti-Terror Cooperation along CPEC
China and Pakistan have agreed to strengthen anti-terrorism and security cooperation along a US $50 billion economic corridor that links the restive regions of the two countries through a network of rail and road projects.
The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) connects Xinjiang province in northwest China with the deep-water Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea in southwestern Pakistan. It faces challenges from Islamic militants in both the regions.
The CPEC, a part of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Belt and Road (B&R) initiative, runs through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and India has raised objection to the project.
- Kenyan woman becomes first to run 10 km within 30 minutes
Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei broke the world 10km record at the Birell Prague Grand Prix, an IAAF Gold Label Road Race.
The 23-year-old Kenyan clocked 29:43 to smash through the 30-minute barrier and break her own record of 30:04, also set in the Czech capital, at the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon on April 1.
The performance marked the fifth world record of the year for Jepkosgei, who broke four –10km, 15km, 20km and the half marathon– en route to her victory at the Prague Half Marathon.
