1. Himalayan Day 2021: 09 September
The National Mission for Clean Ganga organized Himalayan Diwas on September 09, 2021, in association with Naula Foundation. The event was part of the ongoing celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.
This year’s theme is ‘Contribution of Himalayas and our responsibilities’.
2. China endorses Taliban government, announces USD 31 million aid to Afghanistan
The Foreign Ministry of China on September 8, 2021, announced an aid of USD 31 million for Afghanistan and endorsed the new caretaker government “Islamic Emirate” of Taliban.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Hua Chunyin said that the decision was announced during the first meeting of the foreign ministers of the neighbouring countries of Afghanistan. The aid will be for emergency use to the Afghan people.
3. Kongthong: Meghalaya’s whistling village nominated as ‘Best Tourism Village’
Meghalaya’s Whistling village, Kongthong, has been nominated by the Ministry of Tourism for the UNWTO (World Tourism Organisation) ‘Best Tourism Villages’ award.
The two other villages in India that have also been nominated for UNWTO ‘Best Tourism Villages’ award are- Ladhpura Khas in Madhya Pradesh and Pochampally in Telangana
4. India-ADB sign loan to expand Rural Connectivity in Maharashtra
Indian government and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a 300-million-dollar loan on September 8, 2021 to expand rural connectivity in Maharashtra.
Loan agreement was signed as additional financing in order to scale up improvement of rural connectivity. Additional financing for the “Maharashtra Rural Connectivity Improvement Project” will help in improving additional 1,100 rural roads and 230 bridges with total length of 2,900 kilometres in 34 districts of the state.
5. Cabinet approves Russia-India pact for cooperation in geosciences
Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Russian on cooperation in the field of Geosciences.
MoU was signed between the Joint Stock Company Rosgeologia (State holding Company) of Russia and the Geological Survey of India (GSI), Ministry of Mines.
6. Union Minister Bhupender Yadav inaugurates PRANA portal
Union Minister of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav launched a portal named PRANA, for the regulation of air pollution in 132 cities across the country. PRANA stands for Portal for Regulation of Air pollution in Non-Attainment cities. The portal (prana.cpcb.gov.in) will support tracking of physical as well as the financial status of city air action plan implementation and disseminate information on air quality to the public.
