1. Kalraj Mishra took oath as Rajasthan Governor

Former Union Minister Kalraj Mishra took oath as the new Governor of Rajasthan on 9 September 2019. The oath of office was administered by Rajasthan High Court (HC) Chief Justice Shripathi Ravindra Bhat. Mishra will succeed former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Kalyan Singh. Mishra is a BJP leader and veteran politician.

2. Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothishtan won U17 Girls Subroto Cup International Football 2019 title

Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothishtan (BKSP) won U17 Girls Subroto Cup International Football title.The game started with Bangladesh Krida Shiksha Prothishtan (BKSP) enjoying the majority. The first attempt made by Bangladesh team as Aklima Akter side netted a strike from the right flank.

3. Vijay Kumar Chopra and Vineet Jain elected as Chairman and Vice Chairman of PTI

The Board of Directors (BoD) of Press Trust of India (PTI), India’s premier news agency 71st annual general meeting Vijay Kumar Chopra & Vineet Jain elected as Chairman and Vice-Chairman of PTI. He served as the Chairman of PTI in 2001-02 and 2009-10 & as the President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS).

4. India’s first-ever helicopter summit held in Dehradun

Union Ministry of Civil Aviation organised country’s first ever helicopter summit at Sahastradhara helidrome in Dehradun, capital of Uttarakhand. The summit was based on theme of expanding connectivity through helicopters.

5. SLINEX 2019: India and Sri Lanka conducts Joint Naval Exercise

The ‘SLINEX 2019’, the bilateral maritime exercise between India and Sri Lanka commenced on 7 September 2019 and will go on till September 14th.

Sri Lankan Navy has sent two offshore patrol vessels SLNS Sindurala and SLNS Suranimala to India to participate in seventh annual Joint Indo-Lanka Maritime Fleet Exercise- SLINEX 2019. The offshore patrol vessels, SLNS Sindurala and Suranimala left from Trincomalee Port (of Sri Lanka) for India and arrived.

6. MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup: IOC beats PNB

Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) emerge champion in the 93rd All-India MCC-Murugappa Gold Cup hockey tournament by defeating Punjab National Bank (PNB) with 3-1 in final held at Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Murugappa Group Chairman M M Murugappan gave away trophy to the winning team.

7. 7th RCEP Ministerial Meeting commence in Bangkok from 8-10 September

The 7th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) ministerial meeting of 10 members of ASEAN countries and their six FTA (free trade agreement) partners is being held in Bangkok, Thailand from 8-10 September 2019.

8. Annual Asian Achievers Awards: Anil Agarwal honoured with lifetime achievement award

Vedanta Resources Chairman Anil Agarwal was conferred lifetime achievement award at prestigious Annual Asian Achievers Awards in London, UK. The year 2019 marks the 19th edition of Annual Asian Achievers Awards.

9. US Open 2019: Rafael Nadal beats Daniil Medvedev to win 19th Grand Slam title

Rafael Nadal won his 19th Grand Slam title after holding off Russian Daniil Medvedev’s exhilarating fightback in one of the greatest US Open finals. Spain’s Nadal, 33, won 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4 against the fifth seed in New York. Nadal, seeded second, was cruising at two sets and a break up, only for Medvedev to force a decider.

10. India Pavilion inaugurated at 44th Toronto International Film Festival 2019

India Pavilion was inaugurated at 44th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2019 by High Commissioner of India to Canada Vikas Swarup on 6 September 2019. The Inauguration of India Pavilion at TIFF 2019 will provide a platform to showcase Indian Cinema in overseas market and facilitate new business opportunities.

11. Law ministry appoints Justice Vikram Nath as Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court

Justice Vikram Nath has been appointed as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court, the Law Ministry said. The Supreme Court collegium had recommended the name of Justice Nath for the top post in the Gujarat High Court on 22 August after the government returned its earlier recommendation to appoint him as the Andhra Pradesh High Court’s chief justice.

12. Bank of Baroda set to raise capital up to Rs 3,000 crore through tier-II bonds

Public sector lender Bank of Baroda (BoB) is planning to raise capital up to Rs 3,000 crore via tier-II bonds in a bid to meet capital competence norms for the amalgamated entity (integration of Vijaya and Dena Bank with BoB).

Rating agency India Ratings has given“AAA” stable rating to proposed bond offering by the public lender. Ratings for state-owned lender play a pivotal role in large franchise, a pan-India presence, adequate funding base and liquidity

13. India’s life expectancy improves marginally

India has seen an improvement in overall life expectancy at birth to 69 years, with women expected to live for 70.4 years and men for 67.8 years, according to the latest Sample Registration Survey (SRS) for 2013-17.

The overall life expectancy grew from 68.7 years in 2012-16, when life expectancy for women was 70.2 years and that for men was 67.4 years.

14. Duracell Set to Buy Eveready Industries’ Battery and Flashlight Business: Report

US-based Duracell Inc. is set to buy Eveready Industries’ battery and flashlight business in a slump sale for Rs 1,600-1,700 crore, according to a report by the Economic Times.

The deal between Duracell, owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, and BM Khaitan’s flagship firm Eveready is reportedly in the final stage of negotiation and is expected to be announced soon.
