  1. Anita Karwal Replaces RK Chaturvedi as CBSE Chairperson

Anita Karwal replaced Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi as Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) chairperson.  She is currently posted as additional secretary in HRD Ministry.

1988-batch Gujarat cadre officer Karwal, was the Gujarat Chief Electoral officer during the Lok Sabha election in 2014. Chaturvedi was transferred to the National Skill Development Agency

Kenneth I. Juster, until recently deputy director of the National Economic Council at the White House, has been nominated as the next U.S ambassador to India. The appointment will take effect once the U.S Senate confirms him. The post is vacant since January 20.

  1. Ahmedabad gets India’s first World Heritage City certificate

Ahmedabad was formally accorded the status of India’s first World Heritage City, with UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova handing over a certificate for this to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

It is because of the direction shown by our Prime Minister Narendra Modithat we have received this honor,” said Rupani at the function organised at the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya Community hall in Bodakdev

  1. Government Issues Alert on Spread of ‘Locky Ransomware’

The government has issued an alert on spread of new malware ‘Locky Ransomware’ that can lock computers and demand ransom for unlocking them.

Ransomware is a malicious software and the Locky Ransomware is learnt to be demanding ransom of half bitcoin, which at present rate is equivalent to over Rs 1.5 lakh.

The alert, issued on Cyber Swachhta Kendra, said it has been reported that a new wave of spam mails is circulating with common subject lines to spread variants of .Locky Ransomware.

  1. World’s Highest Sandcastle Built in German City

The world’s highest sandcastle is now standing 16.68 meters tall in the German city of Duisburg.

A German travel operator organised the construction of the mammoth sandcastle, bringing in 3,500 tons of sand over the past three and a half weeks to the site at a former steelworks in the inland city.

The new sandcastle is decorated with sand models of tourist attractions such as Athens’ Acropolis, Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

  1. China Opens First Civilian Drone Base in Shanghai

The Civil Aviation Administration of China announced the opening of the country’s first test-flight base for civilian drones in Shanghai.

The base, located in the district of Qingpu, will provide service to thousands of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in a country where private drones have become very popular.

  1. World’s most experienced spacewoman Whitson returns to Earth

Record-breaking NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson and her Expedition 52 crewmates are scheduled to depart the International Space Station and return to Earth, Sept. 2. NASA Television and the agency’s website will provide complete coverage of their departure and landing.

Whitson, fellow Expedition 52 Flight Engineer Jack Fischer of NASA and Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin of the Russian space agency Roscosmos will undock their Soyuz MS-04 spacecraft from the space station and land in Kazakhstan.

  1. Nepal Signs UN Development Assistance Plan

Nepal has signed a USD 635 million UN assistance package for 2018-2022 to lay out the country’s development strategy for the next five years. The National Planning Commission, apex advisory body of the Government of Nepal, and the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Nepal signed the the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF).

  1. Hockey India Sacks Chief Coach Oltmans

Hockey India has sacked national coach Roelant Oltmans after a string of unimpressive outings at the international level.

High-Performance Director David John will be in charge till a suitable replacement is found for a smooth transition of the men’s team.

The decision was taken during the three-day meeting of the Hockey India High Performance and Development Committee, which concluded.

  1. Hamilton wins Italian Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton won the Italian Grand Prix with a controlled race during which his position at the front was never under threat. He led his Mercedes team-mate Valtteri Bottas in a one-two for the team, their third of the season.

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel could manage only third place enabling Hamilton to take the lead of the Formula One world championship for the first time this season, with seven races still to come.

Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo put in a superb, aggressive recovery drive to move from 16th on the grid to fourth.
