  1. PVR’s Chairman nnd MD bags ‘Exhibitor of the Year’ Award

Ajay Bijli, Chairman and Managing Director of PVR Limited, will receive the “Exhibitor of the Year” Award at the CineAsia Awards Ceremony on 14 December 2017 in Hong Kong. PVR began as a joint venture agreement with Village Roadshow, a global film production and exhibition company of Australia, and within a few years, the company established the multiplex format in India.

  1. Indian-origin J Y Pillay appointed as Singapore’s acting president

Indian-origin veteran civil servant JY Pillay has took over as Singapore’s acting President until a new head of the state is elected later this month.

The temporary appointment of Pillay, Chairman of the Council of Presidential Advisers (CPA), follows the completion of President Tony Tan Keng Yam’s six-year term.

  1. India most corrupt Asian country, Vietnam second: Forbes

A recent survey by the Transparency International states that India is the most corrupt country in Asia.

Depicting how pervasive the problem is across Asia, a list released by Forbes – Asia’s Five Most Corrupt Countries – says that India beats Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan and Myanmar, when it comes to bribery rate. India is closely followed by Vietnam at 65 per cent bribery rate.

  1. Arunachal Pradesh and J&K are Fastest Growing Economies

Jammu and Kashmir and Arunachal Pradesh were the fastest expanding State economies in 2015-16, according to a new series of gross State domestic product data with 2011-12 as the base year published by the Central Statistics Office. The two States also reported the fastest rise in per capita income in the same year.

Arunachal Pradesh’s gross State domestic product (GSDP) expanded 16.5 per cent and that of Jammu and Kashmir 14.7 per cent at constant 2011-12 prices.

  1. Bengal govt to provide free GST accounting software to traders

The West Bengal government will provide GST accounting software to all traders, free of cost, Finance Minister Amit Mitra. NIC has been asked to prepare the software, which is expected to will help improve GST compliance.

The State will provide a GST accounting software free of cost and we have approached the NIC for developing it. Office-bearers of the Confederation of West Bengal Trade Associations said the existing softwares in the market are priced upwards of ₹15,000, making them unaffordable to small businesses. Traders have been also facing difficulties over compliance issues under the new tax regime.

  1. Adityanath launched start-up fund for MSMEs

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will  inaugurate one of his government’s most ambitious projects – a start-up fund for promoting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) within the state.

The policy aims at the state-centric ‘Make in UP’ project, in alignment with the Centre’s flagship ‘Make in India’ mission.

  1. CSIR Ranked 9th Public Research Institution of the World

India’s largest autonomous public research and development organisation Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has been ranked ninth in the world.

The ranking is based on a composite indicator that combines research performance, innovation outputs and societal impact measured by their web visibility, so as to reflect scientific, economic and social characteristics of institutions.

Canara, HSBC, Oriental Bank of Commerce Life Insurance have announced the launch of Point of Sale (POS) product ‘POS — Easy Bima Plan’, which offers life cover and also returns all premiums paid during the payment term on survival till maturity.

The Institute for Development and Research in Banking Technology (IDRBT), an arm of the Reserve Bank of India, is developing a model platform for blockchain technology. Blockchian has emerged as the most talked about and researched area in the banking and financial industry. It provides tamper-evident recording of linked transaction history in a distributed network and has potential.

  1. Ministry of Railways Signs two MoUs with Switzerland

 Two MoUs have been signed in the course of the visit of President of the Swiss Confederation, Mrs. Doris Leuthard to India on i.e.31.8.2017 between Ministry of Railways and Swiss Confederation.

The first MoU is between Ministry of Railways and Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communications of the Swiss Confederation for technical cooperation in Rail Sector.

  1. ItzCash partners with HDFC Ergo for general insurance products

Private general insurance company HDFC ERGO has entered into a strategic agreement with payments solutions company ItzCash to offer general insurance products on its platform.

The partnership inked will offer a wide range of general insurance policies including health, motor, fire and auto. Under the arrangement, the entire process right from filing an application to making the payment will be executed digitally through ItzCash’s network thus eradicating the possibilities of human error and other delays to offer customer service on a real-time basis.

  1. India wins bronze at World Boxing Championships

Wildcard entrant Gaurav Bidhuri’s remarkable run at the World Boxing Championships ended with a bronze medal after he lost his semi-final clash to American Duke Ragan.

India thus ended the tournament with a bronze medal, equalling the performance of 2009 (Vijender Singh), 2011 (Vikas Krishan) and 2015 (Shiva Thapa).
