The announcement was made by the chairman-cum-managing director of ‘Mathrubhumi’ daily, M P Veerendra Kumar, MP, at a press conference at Kalpetta in the district.

  1. Government Appoints MK Gupta, DK Gayen as New Railway Board Members

The government of India has appointed Mahesh Kumar Gupta and D K Gayen as the two new members in the Railway Board.

D.K. Gayen, presently posted as General Manager East Central Railway, has been appointed as new Member (Staff) Railway Board and ex officio Secretary to the Government of India.

  1. New Guiness Record at IISF Chennai 2017

Day two of the India International Science Festival (IISF) in Anna University campus at Chennai saw the making of a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Biology Lesson.

World Record attempts have been a key part of India International Science Festival since 2015, which leads to encouragement and popularizing of Science through public participation.

In IISF 2015, students took a successful shot at the Guinness World record for the world’s largest science Lesson at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.

Mahindra & Mahindra has launched a programme, Prerna, to empower women working in the agriculture sector by promoting efficient and ergonomic farm tools and equipment.

The project will be initially launched in the state of Odisha, with the intention to positively impact the lives of over 1,500 families across 30-plus villages .

Rajasthan assembly has become the first in India to call attention and adjournment motions and proposals online from legislators to send them to the state government.

The system is expected to save time, labour and use of paper in the functioning of the assembly, and also help legislators in bringing attention to urgent public issues.

E-commerce major Myntra launched its CSR initiative in association with the Union Textile Ministry, to work directly with weavers and elevate their economic stature.

With an initiative to provide impetus to the Government’s agenda to transform and revive demand for arts and handloom products in India, the company is committing itself along with some of its partner brands to bring artisans and their products online, providing them access to new customers and opportunities.

International Day of Rural Women was marked annually on 15 October – Executive Director of UN Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka noted that women farmers are “just as productive and enterprising” as male counterparts, but often lack equal access to land, credit, agricultural inputs, markets and high-value agri food chains.

  1. Defence Minister to commission INS Kiltan into Indian Navy in Visakhapatnam

The country is rapidly marching towards indigenisation and the commissioning of the third Kamorta class Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) stealth corvette is a classic example of that, said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

She was in Visakhapatnam at the Eastern Naval Command to commissionINS Kiltan, the third of the four Project-28 Kamorta class ASW.

The Meghalaya government, in association with the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, and the Indian Council of Cultural Relations, is organising India International Cherry Blossom Festival in Shillong between November 8-11, for the second year in a row.

The cherry blossom festivals have generated huge employment and revenues for various cities and countries as millions of visitors from different parts of the world travel to Japan, New Zealand and parts of Korea.

Kavita Devi,a former competitive powerlifter, has become the first ever Indian woman to be signed by the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Jinder Mahal, the current WWE champion, confirmed the news in a special visit to New Delhi recently.

Hailing from Haryana, Kavita underwent training to be a professional wrestler under the guidance of The Great Khali (Dalip Singh Rana) at his Punjab based wrestling promotion and training academy.

  1. Legendary Brazilian Sailor Robert Scheidt Retires from Olympics

Atlanta 1996 and Athens 2004 gold medal-winning sailor Robert Scheidt has announced his retirement from Olympic competition, ending a career that spanned a quarter of a century.

The 44-year-old said he would continue to participate in non-Olympic events and support Brazil’s elite sailors as they prepare for the 2020 Tokyo Games, reports Xinhua news agency.
