1. Indo-Japan Joint Military Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN 2019

Joint Military Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN-2019 between India and Japan will be conducted at counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, Vairengte from 19 Oct 2019 to 02 Nov 2019. Indian Army and Japanese Ground Self Defence Forces (JGSDF) comprising 25 soldiers each will participate in the exercise with an aim to share experience gained during various Counter-Terrorism Operations in respective Countries.

2. Mary Kom signs off with bronze in World Championships

Mary Kom got third and defeated 1-4 to second seed Cakiroglu, who is the reigning European Championships and European Games gold-medallist. Mary Kom counter-attacks Cakiroglu struggled to make her victory.

The second round followed a similar pattern as far as the tactics went but Cakiroglu seemed the sharper of the two. In the final three minutes, both the boxers upped the ante but Cakiroglu became the dominant aggressor eventually.

3. Eliud Kipchoge First In World To Run A Marathon In Under 2 Hours

Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge made history busting the mythical two-hour barrier marathon on a specially prepared course in a huge Vienna park. The unofficial time completed by him was 1hr 59min 40.2sec. The Olympic champion became the first ever to run a marathon in under two hours in the Prater park with the course readied to make it as even as possible.

The 34-year-old already holds the men’s world record for the distance with a time of 2hr 01min 39sec, which he set in the flat Berlin marathon on September 16, 2018. Kipchoge bested that mark, making good on a failed attempt two years ago in Monza, Italy.

4. Vajra Prahar: India-US Joint Military Exercise, 2019

A joint military training exercise “Vajra Prahar” is conducted in Seattle between October 13, 2019 and October 28, 2019. The exercise is conducted alternately in India and US. The Special Forces and the Southern Command of Indian Armed Forces will participate in the exercise

5. October 13: International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction

The International Day of Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR) was begun in 1989 by the United Nations General Assembly. The purpose of the day is to promote global culture towards risk awareness and disaster reduction. It celebrates how people and communities around the world reduce their exposure to disasters. Also, the day raises awareness towards the importance of reining in the risks that are faced by the global citizens.

Theme: Reduce disaster damage to critical infrastructure and disruption of basic services

6. Dubai to host 2019 First Global DXB Challenge

Dubai will be hosting the 2019 First Global DXB Challenge, a large gathering for creative young minds in the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence. It will be held for the first time in the region from 24 to 27 October 2019 at the Festival Arena in Dubai, UAE.

7. MS Ananth conferred with Lifetime Achievement Award at TiECON Chennai 2019

Former Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, MS Ananth was conferred with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the TiECON Chennai 2019 event held here.

The award was given for his contributions to higher education in India, and for committed research and excellence in Chemical engineering.

8. Credit growth slows to 8.74% in HI

According to the Reserve Bank of India’s scheduled banks’ statement of position in India, credit growth in the first half slowed to 8.74 per cent year-on-year (y-o-y) up to September 27, 2019, (vis-a-vis September 28, 2018) against 12.38 per cent year-on-year growth up to September 28, 2018.

9. Sara Danius, the first female head of Nobel’s literature award body, passes away at 57

Sara Danius, the first female head of the prestigious Swedish body that awards the Nobel Prize in Literature, has died. She was 57. Her family told Swedish news agency TT that Danius passed away early following a long illness. Swedish media said she had breast cancer.

10. India, ADB sign 190 million dollar loan agreement for improving road connectivity in Rajasthan

India and Asian Development Bank, ADB have signed 190 million dollar loan agreement for improving road connectivity in Rajasthan.

Finance Ministry said, the agreement was signed to upgrade 754 kilometres of state highways which will benefit about 26 million people in 14 districts of Rajasthan.
