1. October is observed as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The month of October is observed as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month every year. The annual campaign aims to raise awareness of the disease. It also helps to increase attention and support for awareness, early detection, and treatment as well as palliative care of this disease. World Health Organization (WHO) aims to promote breast cancer control programmes as part of national cancer control plans.

2. India celebrated its 87th Air Force Day on 8th October

India celebrated its 87th Air Force Day on 8th October 2019. The year 2019 is special because the Indian Air force received the first of 36 long-awaited Rafale fighter jets. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who is on a visit to France will receive the fighter jets.

3. Indian Army organizes Veer Kutumb Rally in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir, Crossed Swords Division organized a VEER KUTUMB RALLY at Tanda, Akhnoor.

Aim

To reach out to veterans, veer naris, widows and their families. The Rally was organised by the Indian Army as part of its activities to observe 2019 as the ‘Year of the Next of Kin’.

4. Nobel Prize – Physics category for “New understanding of universe”

The 2019 Nobel prize for Physics was awarded to Swiss Scientists Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz and Canadian – American physicist James Peebles. One half of the prize was won by the American for his contribution towards “Theoretical discoveries in physical cosmology”. The other half was shared between the Swiss scientists for their work on “Discovery of an exoplanet orbiting a star similar to sun”.

5. Government launches eDant Seva October 8, 2019

The eDant Seva was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family welfare. It is an initiative under the National Oral Health Program. The initiative aims to sensitize the importance of maintaining oral health. It provides information about nearest oral health service facility. It also provides oral health information collected from authentic scientific sources.

World Space Week is the largest space event on the Earth. 7. SBI launches debit card EMI on POS

The State Bank of India (SBI) has launched an EMI (equated monthly instalment) facility for its existing debit card customers. According to a press release issued by the bank, under the scheme, card holders will be able to avail the loans via point-of-sale (POS) machines across India. They can buy the products at 40,000+ merchants and stores in 1,500+ cities having Pine Labs branded POS machines totaling.

8. Spain’s Marquez grabs 6th MotoGP world title

Marc Marquez wrapped up the 2019 title with four races to spare, as he clinched his eighth overall championships across all classes he has won.

Marquez, who has now been crowned champion in six of his seven seasons at the highest level, edged out Quartararo on the final corner to leave the Frenchman crestfallen.

9. India gets first tranche of Swiss bank account details

India has received the first tranche of details about financial accounts of its residents in Swiss banks under a new automatic exchange of information framework between the two countries. It marks a significant milestone in the fight against black money suspected to be stashed abroad.

10. Chris Silverwood named England head coach

After much speculation, England have appointed Chris Silverwood as their new head coach across all formats, replacing Trevor Bayliss who stepped down from the role at the end of the home summer.

11. Nippon Life invests Rs 6,000 cr to emerge largest shareholder in Reliance MF

Japan’s Nippon Life Insurance has completed an investment of Rs 6,000 crore in the erstwhile Reliance Mutual Fund to emerge as the single largest shareholder, with 75 per cent stake.

Following this, the Japanese company has renamed Reliance Mutual Fund as Nippon India Mutual Fund and has started the integration of operations with its Global Unified Asset Management business.
