1. MNRE to organise Global Student Solar Assembly on Oct 2

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in association with IIT Bombay is organizing the Global Student Solar Assembly on October 2, 2019. The day-long event scheduled at Indira Gandhi Stadium Complex, New Delhi will see participation of over 10,000 students from across the institutions from National Capital Region and Delhi, an official statement said.

2. Sports Ministry inks MoU with NBCC to develop National Sports University at Imphal

State-owned construction firm NBCC (India) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Sports under Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports (MYAS) to provide Project Management Consultancy for development of National Sports University at Imphal, Manipur. The approximate cost of project would be Rs.400 crore.

3. Arogya Manthan’ event being organised in New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will preside over the valedictory function of Arogya Manthan in New Delhi on 1 October 2019. At the event PM Modi will launch a new mobile application of Ayushman Bharat and ‘Ayushman Bharat Start-Up Grand Challenge’. He will interact with select beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat or PM-JAY and will also release a commemorative stamp on the occasion.

4. Trade apprentices to get minimum monthly stipend: Govt

Union Ministry for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has notified changes in Apprenticeship Rules (1992) as Apprenticeship (Amendment) Rules, 2019 with an aim to increase skilled manpower in the country, and raise minimum stipend payable to trade apprentices.

5. National Nutrition Survey

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare organized first National Nutrition Survey. The ministry took help from UNICEF to complete the survey. The survey was conducted between 2016 and 2018. In India, for the first time the ministry measured malnutrition that included micro nutrient deficiencies.

It was done by collecting urine samples and blood samples. Apart from this, details of non – communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, cholesterol, kidney function in children were also collected during the survey.

6. SBI becomes first Indian bank to have office in Australia’s Victoria

The State Bank of India opened its Melbourne office, becoming the first Indian bankNSE 1.60 % to have a branch in the Australian state of Victoria.

The Melbourne office will assist the growing trade and investment relations between Victoria and India and is the outcome of the state’s 10-year India Strategy – our shared future, according to a press release.

7. Kaushal Dharmamer wins Maldives International Challenge

Indian shuttler Kaushal Dharmamer clinched the men’s singles title at the Maldives International Challenge with a straight-games win over Siril Verma.

The 23-year-old from Mumbai, who won the Myanmar International Series earlier this month, registered a comfortable 21-13, 21-18 victory over his compatriot in a match that lasted 35 minutes.

8. KS Dhatwalia named new PIB DG

The Centre appointed senior Indian Information Service (IIS) official KS Dhatwalia as the new Director General of the Press Information Bureau (PIB). Dhatwalia will become the 28th DG of the PIB succeeding incumbent Sitanshu Ranjan Kar.

9. Axis Bank launches Express FD

Private sector lender Axis Bank, announced the launch of a digital fixed-deposit product. Called ‘Express FD’, a customer can open an Express FD account in three minutes through the digital mode without opening a savings account with the bank.

10. International Day of Older Persons 1 October

The International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to highlight the important contributions that older people make to society and raise awareness of the opportunities and challenges of ageing in today’s world.

11. KSUM signs MoUs with Oppo, Wadhwani Foundation to support SMEs, startups

The Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) signed Memorandum of Understandings (MoUs) with Oppo Mobiles India Private Limited and the Wadhwani Foundation at the second edition of Huddle Kerala 2019.

The MoUs were signed between M Sivasankar IAS, Secretary, Electronics and IT, Government of Kerala, Tasleem Arif, Vice President, and R&D Head, India, Oppo, and Abhinav Khera, Senior Vice President, Wadhwani Foundation in the presence of Chief Minister Shri Pinarayi Vijayan during the event.
