  1. Dia appointed UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador for India

Actor-activist Dia Mirza has been appointed UN Environment’s Goodwill Ambassador for India. The 35-year-old actor has been recognised by the United Nations for her contribution to environment conservation.

As a Goodwill Ambassador, the actor will work with the UN to further spread the message on priority areas including clean air, clean seas, wildlife protection and climate change. Congratulating Dia to the programme

  1. Preet Didbal becomes US’ first Sikh woman Mayor

Preet Didbal has been elected as the mayor of Yuba city in California, becoming the first Sikh woman to hold the position in the United States.

Dibal was appointed by the California city council and will be sworn in on December 5. Didbal is the first Sikh woman to be elected as mayor in the country

  1. India up one spot to 68 on Global Entrepreneurship Index

India has moved up one place to spot 68 on the Global Entrepreneurship Index of 2018, which is topped by the US. India was at the 69th position last year, according to the Global Entrepreneurship Network (GEN).

GEN is a platform of programmes and initiatives to help new firms start and scale while working to create a global entrepreneurial ecosystem. GEN is a strategic partner of GEDI.

  1. Manohar Parrikar launches farmer engagement app ‘Jai Kisaan’

Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar has launched the Jai Kisaan App, a farmer engagement app packed with features and functions to fulfill the needs of the farmers community in India.

The Jai Kisan app is a one-stop solution on agricultural information and cultivation, covering crop nutrition, protection, seeds, and diagnostic services.

Such services include soil testing and customized information wherein farmers will have access to fertilizer recommendations on the basis of crop and target yields.

  1. Skill India partners with Airbnb to Upskill hospitality Entrepreneurs

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship’s implementation arm National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Tourism and Hospitality Sector Skill Council (THSC) signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbnb to provide hospitality skills training to hospitality micro-entrepreneurs in India.

Through the partnership, the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Airbnb, NSDC and THSC will work together to create an accredited skill development module for hospitality entrepreneurs offering homestay facilities, unique accommodations and local experiences.

  1. Cabinet approves investment cooperation and facilitation treaty between India and Brazil

The Union Cabinet has given its approval for signing and ratification of the Investment Cooperation and Facilitation Treaty (ICFT) between India and Brazil.

The Treaty will result in increase of investment flows between the two countries. The ICFT between India and Brazil will provide appropriate facilitation to Brazilian investors in India and Indian investors in the Brazil.

  1. Cabinet approves MoU between India and Italy for cooperation in Agriculture and Phytosanitary issues

The Union Cabinet has approved signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and Italy for cooperation in Agriculture and Phytosanitary issues. It replaces the earlier MoU signed in January, 2008 which is going to expire in January, 2018.

The MoU provides for cooperation in the fields of Phytosanitary issues, agricultural production and a wide range of other sectors including animal husbandry, agricultural research, food processing and other additional fields as may be mutually decided by both the sides.

  1. Kiren Rijiju inaugurates International Storytellers Festival

The Minister of State for Home Affairs Shri Kiren Rijiju will inaugurate 7th edition of three day ‘Kathakar: International Storytellers Festival’ tomorrow at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts ( IGNCA), New Delhi

Kathakar is the only oral storytelling festival in India and is a part of Ghummakkad Narain- the Travelling Literature Festival which was started under the aegis of UNESCO in 2010. Kathakar is an attempt to not just preserve the art form but also create new audiences for the same.

  1. RBI asks cooperative societies not to use word ‘Bank’ in names

The RBI has asked co-operative societies not use the word ‘Bank’ in their names as it violates the Banking Regulation Act.

It has come to the notice of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that some co-operative Societies are using the word “Bank” in their names. This is a violation of Section 7 of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.

The insurance cover from Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) is also not available for deposits placed with these societies.

  1. India, Singapore ink major pact on marine security

India and Singapore have inked an agreement which acquires significance amid China’s increasing military manoeuvres in the Indo-Pacific region.

The pact on naval cooperation provides for increased engagement in the maritime security sphere, joint exercises, temporary deployments from each other’s naval facilities and logistics support.

  1. Mirabai Chanu Clinches Gold Medal at World Weightlifting Championships

In a historic win, India’s Mirabai Chanu clinched the gold medal at the 2017 World Championship in the US. Mirabai Chanu is the first Indian in over two decades to claim a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championship.

She lifted 85kg in snatch and 109kg in clean and jerk to total an impressive 194 kg in the women’s 48kg, in the process setting a new national record. Thailand’s Sukcharoen Thunya won the silver medal with a total lift of 193, while Segura Ana Iris bagged the bronze with 182kg.

  1. Odisha CM Unveils Logo & Mascot of Hockey World Cup 2018

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik unveiled the logo and mascot for the Hockey Men’s World Cup 2018 at Kalinga Stadium. The state had successfully hosted the Asian Athletics Championships a few months ago.

The Chief Minister also launched the countdown timer for the international event scheduled to be held here from November 28 to December 16, 2018.

  1. IOA Formally Recognises Boxing Federation of India

The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) has been recognised as a national body by the Indian Olympic Association, which removed the terminated Indian Amateur Boxing Federation (IABF) as its affiliate after months of indecision.

The BFI, already recognised by the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and the Sports Ministry, finally got the IOA’s nod, which had IABF registered as the official body till now.

  1. Egyptian actress and singer Shadia passed away

Shadia, an Egyptian actress and singer who captivated Arab audiences for decades, died. She was in her late 80s.

She belonged to an era in the Egyptian entertainment industry that critics and entertainers called the “beautiful” or “golden” age, a time that stretched from the 1940s to the ’70s, when some of Egypt’s most highly regarded movies were produced.
