1. Jason Mott won 2021 National Book Award for fiction

The 72nd edition of the National Book Award was organized as a virtual event by the National Book Foundation. Jason Mott won the 2021 National Book Award for fiction for his novel “Hell of a Book”, a narrative about a black author’s adventure while travelling around in a book tour.

2. Geoff Allardice appointed as Permanent CEO of ICC

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Geoff Allardice as the permanent CEO of the International Cricket governing body. He was serving as interim CEO for more than eight months. He replaces Manu Sawhney who officially resigned from his position in July 2021. Allardice, a former Australian first-class cricketer and administrator, was the ICC General Manager, Cricket for eight years. He had previously held a similar role at Cricket Australia.

3. Lewis Hamilton wins 2021 F1 Qatar Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain), has won the 2021 F1 Qatar Grand Prix. Max Verstappen (Red Bull – Netherlands) came second while Fernando Alonso (Alpine- Spain) came third. With this win, Lewis Hamilton has become the first driver to have won at 30 different circuits in Formula 1.

4. World Fisheries Day: 21 November

World Fisheries Day is celebrated on 21 November every year by fishing communities across the world. It highlights the importance of healthy oceans ecosystems and ensuring sustainable stocks of fisheries in the world. 2021 is the fifth World Fisheries Day. The first World Fisheries Day was celebrated on November 21, 2015. On the same day, it was the grand opening of the International Fisherman’s organization was held in New Delhi.

5. Andhra Tops IPF Smart Policing Index 2021

Andhra Pradesh Police has topped the ‘IPF Smart Policing’ Index 2021, among 29 states and Union Territories, released by the Indian Police Foundation (IPF). Andhra Pradesh has secured the first rank with an overall score of 8.11 out of 10.

Telangana Police is in the second position with 8.10 points while Assam Police has secured the third position with an overall rating of 7.89. With a score of 5.81, Uttar Pradesh is ranked at 28th position and Bihar has occupied the last position with 5.74 points.

8. War hero Abhinandan Varthaman receives Vir Chakra

Abhinandan Varthaman, Indian Air Force ace pilot Group Captain, was accorded Vir Chakra by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind in an investiture ceremony on November 22, 2021.

Abhinandan Varthaman has received Vir Chakra for shooting down a Pakistani F-16 fighter aircraft during aerial combat on February 27, 2019, a day after the Balakot airstrike. While shooting down the enemy aircraft, Abhinandan flew over Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and his MiG-21 was hit.

9. Bhubaneswar receives “Best Marine District Award”

On the occasion of World Fisheries Day on November 21, 2021, Balasore district of Bhubaneswar received India’s “Best Marine District” award.

Award was handed over by Union minister for fisheries, animal husbandry & dairying, Parshottam Rupala to director of fisheries of Odisha government, Smruti Ranjan Pradhan.
