- Dora new vice-chairman of International Fisheries Cooperative Federation
T Prasad Rao Dora, president FISHCOPFED-India and FISHFED-Odisha, has been elected as vice-chairman of the International Fisheries Cooperative Federation.
Dora got elected to the global body at the Global Conference and General Assembly Conference which was conducted by International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) at Kuala Lumpur.
- DVC chairman Andrew W K Langstieh resigns
Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) chairman Andrew W K Langstieh has resigned from his post after serving three years at the helm.
He will go back to the Indian Audit and Accounts Service cutting short his tenure at DVC which was for five years.

3.Maharashtra to ban plastic water bottles at govt offices
The Maharashtra government, in a bid to become plastic-free state from March 2018, has banned packaged water bottles in Mantralaya and other government offices.
Plastic bottles of mineral water have also been banned at hotels and the regulation will soon be imposed on restaurants.

- Mumbai Metro launches QR-based mobile ticketing facility
Reliance Infrastructure-run Mumbai Metro One has launched a mobile ticketing facility called Skiiip Q in association with digital payments player Paytm that will help commuters book their tickets even from outside the metro stations.
Instead of using tokens or smart cards, commuters can travel using the QR code generated by mobile app on automated fare collection gates of the 11.4-km Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar metro line.

- Two-day 12th North East Business Summit Inaugurated in New Delhi
The Two-day 12th North-East Business Summit” was inaugurated. The summit aims to explore the scope for business opportunities in the North-Eastern region of India.
Focus areas are Infrastructure and Connectivity with Public Private Partnerships, Skill Development, Financial Inclusion, Services Sector Development- Particularly in Tourism, Hospitality & Food Processing. The Summit is being organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC), with Manipur being the state partner for the event.
- Health Ministry introduces Daily Drug Regimen for treatment of Tuberculosis
The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has recently announced the launch of daily regimen for TB patients across the country under The Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP).
The Health Ministry has been providing the thrice weekly regimen for the treatment of tuberculosis (TB), however it has now decided to change the treatment strategy for TB patients from thrice weekly to daily drug regimen using fixed dose combinations (FDC) for treatment.
This change will bring transformation in the approach and the intensity to deal with this disease which accounts for about 4.2 lakh deaths every year.
- Germany replaces US as best country in Nation Brands Index
According to the Nation Brands Index (NBI) survey by German-based market research firm GfK and the British political consultant Simon Anholt.
Germany moved one place up from second in 2016 while the United States dropped to the 6th spot with France, Britain, Canada and Japan taking spots two to five.
The ranking was given based on public opinion around the world on “the power and quality of each country’s ‘brand image’.
The study calculated the final NBI score by researching how well people viewed a country across six categories: Its people, governance, exports, tourism, investment and immigration and culture and heritage.
- India, France to enhance counter-terror cooperation
India and France today decided to enhance counter- terror cooperation, and asked the international community to oppose those financing, sheltering and providing safe havens to terrorists.
This was announced by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj after her talks with her French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian, during which key bilateral, regional and international issues were discussed.

In a first, the United States, India and China have agreed to work together to make cyberspace a safer and secured place to live and work.
A joint trilateral meeting between representatives from three countries was held on Thursday at the Vivekananda International Foundation, a New-Delhi based think tank.
- India-Canada joint venture in medical electronics to ensure affordable healthcare
Unique Broadband Systems Ltd, UBS, of Toronto, Ontario, Canada and Kaynes Technology of Mysore, India, was awarded funding by the Global Innovation and Technology Alliance, GITA, of India and Global Affairs Canada, for the co-development and co-marketing of high power RF amplifiers for low field magnetic resonance imaging, MRI , applications.
The project falls under the Program category of Affordable Healthcare, Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM).
- India, Russia discuss ways to boost trade, investments
India and Russia have discussed ways to boost bilateral trade and investments to strengthen economic ties.
Prabhu is on a visit to Russia from November 15-17, to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting of the ministers of member states responsible for foreign economy and trade.
This is the first ministerial conference on trade organised by the organisation after India became a full member in June.
- France Named as Host of 2023 Rugby World Cup
France will host the 2023 Rugby World Cup in a huge surprise after the Council of the sport’s governing body went against the recommendations of an extensive evaluation report in a secret ballot.
South Africa had been recommended by World Rugby’s Board but the Council members went for France, which also held the tournament in 2007.
