- Indonesia’s Kevin Lilliana crowned Miss International 2017
Indonesia’s Kevin Lilliana was crowned Miss International 2017 on Tuesday at an event held at the Tokyo Dome City Hall.
This year, a total of 71 women participated in the beauty pageant that was won by Kylie Verzosa of the Philippines in 2016.
- Prez Kovind launches schemes worth ₹3,400 crore in Jharkhand
President Ram Nath Kovind was launched, or laid the foundation stones of, various schemes entailing total expenditure of Rs 3,455 crore in Jharkhand to coincide with the state’s 17th Foundation Day.
Kovind launched the Rs 636-crore ‘Mukhyamantri Health Insurance Scheme’ under which 57 lakh of the 68 lakh families in the state will benefit. Beneficiaries will get treatment costing Rs 2 lakh under the scheme.

‘Ek Bharat-Shreshtha Bharat’ Yojana has been started with an objective to strengthen cultural relations of various parts of the country and to embolden the mutual connection between the people dwelling in different states. Under the Yojana, Madhya Pradesh has been made partner of Manipur and Nagaland.
The Higher Education Department of Madhya Pradesh has been made nodal department to implement the scheme. A team from Madhya Pradesh comprising of 8 members has also toured Manipur and Nagaland in this regard.
- K. Singh launches ‘Saubhagya’ Web-Portal
R.K. Singh, Minister of State (IC) for Power and New & Renewable Energy, launched the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana – ‘Saubhagya’ Web Portal here today. The portal can be accessed at http://saubhagya.gov.in.
The Saubhagya Dashboard is a platform for monitoring household electrification progress, which would disseminate information on Household Electrification Status (State, District, village-wise), Household Progress on live basis, State-wise Target vs Achievement, Monthly Electrification Progress, etc.
- Vice President to inaugurate Aadi Mahotsav in New Delhi
The Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate ‘Aadi Mahotsav’ – a fortnight long Tribal Festival with the theme of ‘A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Cuisine and Commerce’ i.e 16 Nov 2017 at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi.
The festival will run for a fortnight through 30th November 2017. The theme of the festival is: A Celebration of the Spirit of Tribal Culture, Cuisine and Commerce. The festival will feature exhibition-cum-sale of tribal handicrafts, art, paintings, fabric, jewellery and much more through about 200 stalls.
- Karnataka govt launches project to install WiFi in all gram panchayats
The Karnataka government has unveiled an ambitious project to install Wi-Fi facility in all gram panchayats across Karnataka, beginning with 2,500 gram panchayats this year.
The project would bridge the digital divide and provide an opportunity to each and every entrepreneur from the cities and towns across Karnataka, to benefit from the enabling eco-system, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in his address at the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2017.
- Cabinet approves Rs 3,320 cr plan to boost judicial infrastructure
The Union Cabinet has approved the continuation of a centrally-sponsored scheme for the development of infrastructural facilities for the judiciary beyond the 12th Five-Year Plan till March 31, 2020.
The scheme — with an estimated outlay of Rs 3,320 crore — for the development of such infrastructure will be implemented in a mission mode through the National Mission for Justice Delivery and Legal Reforms.
- Cabinet approves creation of GST anti-profiteering authority
The union cabinet has approved the establishment of the much-anticipated National Anti-profiteering Authority (NAA) to ensure the benefits of such rate cuts are passed on to consumers.
Anti-profiteering measures will provide an institutional framework to ensure that the full benefits of input tax credits and reduced GST rates on goods or services flow to consumers.

The National Press Day observed on November 17, 2017 which is observed as a symbol of a free and responsible press in the country.
The Criminal Laws (Rajasthan Amendment) Ordinance, 2017, promulgated on September 6, provides immunity to the serving and retired public servants, judges and magistrates from probe and prosecution on complaints about their alleged offences without prior sanction by the authorities. It also bars the media from reporting on such accusations till the sanction is given.
- Indo-Bangladesh Exercise ‘SAMPRITI 2017’
Indo-Bangladesh joint exercise SAMPRITI was held at Counter Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School, Vairengte in Mizoram.
Exercise SAMPRITI is an important bilateral defence cooperation endeavour between India and Bangladesh.
The exercise is aimed at strengthening and broadening the aspects of interoperability and cooperation between the Indian and Bangladesh Armies while working together in a counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism environment under the UN mandate.
- Hyperloop One signs MoU with Maharashtra, Karnataka to identify routes
Virgin Hyperloop One has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Karnataka Urban Development Department (KUDD) and the Maharashtra government to identify potential routes to improve mobility in both the states and connect high growth cities.
The hyperloop mode uses technology in which a vehicle in a special tunnel floats above the track, using magnetic levitation, at a top speed of over 1,000 km per hour.

India is all set to host the Global Conference on Cyberspace (GCCS), one of the world’s largest conferences in the field of cyberspace and related issues, on November 23 and 24 at Aerocity in New Delhi.
The theme for this year’s GCCS is “Cyber4All: A Secure and Inclusive Cyberspace for Sustainable Development”.

- Cabinet clears agreement between India and Belarus
The Union Cabinet has been apprised of the Agreement between the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) and the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB) on Scientific and Technological Cooperation for mutual benefit in the areas of science, technology, agriculture, etc.
The Agreement was exchanged on 12th September, 2017 at New Delhi during the visit of Belarus President H.E. Mr. Alexander Lukashenko.
- US, Japan launch 10-day naval drill
Japan and the US launched a joint naval drill in a show of force aimed at North Korea. The 10-day exercise, joined by some 14,000 US servicemen, aircraft carrier USS ‘Ronald Reagan’ and the guided-missile destroyers USS ‘Stethem,’ USS ‘Chafee’ and USS ‘Mustin,’
The annual drill “is designed to increase the defensive readiness and interoperability of Japanese and American forces through training in air and sea operations.
