1. The 2nd Summit of World Religious Leaders began in Baku

The 2nd Summit of World Religious Leaders began in Baku, Azerbaijan. The summit will be held from 14-15 November 2019. The Summit aims to contribute to the development of inter-religious dialogue, promotion, and evolution of such human values as mutual understanding and human solidarity.

2. Famous mathematician Vashishth Narayan Singh passed away

Famous mathematician Vashishth Narayan Singh passed away in Patna on 14 November 2019. He was 77 years old. He was suffering from mental illness schizophrenia for 40 years. He earned world recognition as he challenged Einstein’s theory of relativity.

3. Avneet Sidhu was honoured with Guru Nanak Dev Ji Achievers Award

The former international shooter Avneet Sidhu, a DSP with the Punjab Police, was honoured with Guru Nanak Dev Ji Achievers Award in a state-level function at Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab. The award was presented by the Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. Avneet was awarded for her contribution to the field of sports.

4. Amit Panghal was conferred the Haryana Gaurav award

India boxer Amit Panghal was conferred the Haryana Gaurav award for winning the silver medal in the World Boxing Championship. The award was conferred by the Haryana in UK Association.

The association also honored the International Sports Curator Sunil Yash Kalra. The awards were presented by Elected Member of British Parliament from Southall, London, Virendra Sharma, at an award ceremony held in London.

5. Assam launches Sishu Suraksha App for child right violations

On the occasion of Children’s Day on 14 November 2019, the Assam State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (ASCPCR) launched a mobile app called ‘Sishu Suraksha’, an e-complaint box for child right violations. The ASCPCR decided to develop an e-complaint box, keeping in mind the mission of a Digital India.

6. Nita Ambani elected to board of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art

Educationist, Philanthropist and Businesswoman Nita Ambani has been named the Honorary Trustee of New York City’s The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the largest U.S. art museum. In the museum’s 150-year of history, she is the first Indian Trustee. Her election took place at the meeting of the Museum’s board and the announcement in this regard was made by Daniel Brodsky, the Chairman of Museum.

7. India attends IUCN’s 7th Regional Conservation Forum held at Islamabad

International Union for Conservation of Nature organized the 7th Regional Conservation Forum in Islamabad, Pakistan. Secretary of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change represented India at the forum. More than 500 representatives from different countries, corporate sector and NGOs participated in the forum

8. India’s Ravi Prakash wins BRICS-Young Innovator Prize

India’s Ravi Prakash has won the BRICS-Young Innovator Prize at 4th BRICS -Young Scientist Forum’s Conclave held during 6-8 November2019 in Brazil. He won the first first prize carrying $25,000 for inventing an affordable indigenous milk chilling unit for smaller and marginal rural dairy farmers.

9. Dhaka Global Dialogue held in Bangladesh

The first edition of Dhaka Global Dialogue was held from 11-13 November 2019 in Bangladesh. The three day long programme was inaugurated by Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. The programme was jointly organised by New Delhi based Observer Research Foundation (ORF) and Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS).

10. India, Switzerland hold bilateral meeting to discuss fight against tax evasion

India and Switzerland held Secretary-level bilateral meeting today in New Delhi and discussed enhanced cooperation in the fight against tax evasion.

An official release said, the Secretaries expressed satisfaction over the progress made over the past few years in the area of administrative assistance in tax matters, particularly the efforts made by Switzerland in providing assistance in HSBC cases.

11. UP govt launches e-Ganna app, web portal

Uttar Pradesh government has launched a dedicated web portal and a mobile application, e-Ganna App, for sugarcane farmers of the state. Cane supply slip will now be issued to the farmers by sugar mills online.

Launching the facilities at a function in Lucknow, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said his government is relentlessly pursuing the goal set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to double farmers’ income.

12. NCDEX launches agricultural futures index

NCDEX launched return based agricultural futures index. The exchange has partnered with NSE Indices Limited, a leading index service provider, as a third party to maintain and disseminate real time NCDEX AGRIDEX values. The one of its kind index, the AGRIDEX tracks and replicates the performance of the ten most liquid commodities traded on the NCDEX’s platform.

13. World Diabetes Day observed on November 14

World Diabetes Day is the primary global awareness campaign focusing on diabetes mellitus and is held on 14 November each year. While the campaigns last the whole year, the day itself marks the birthday of Frederick Banting who, along with Charles Best and John James Rickard Macleod, first conceived the idea which led to the discovery of insulin in 1922.

14. IIT Guwahati researchers develop paper based sensor that detects freshness of milk

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati researchers have developed a paper-based sensor that can make an assessment of the freshness of milk by a simple and instantaneous method. The quality and freshness of milk are decided by the invasion and presence of microbes in the milk.

Bacteria and other microbes that can grow in milk can not only affect the taste and freshness, but can also result in health issues. Pasteurization is commonly used to kill the microbes in milk and various tests are used to ensure the effectiveness of pasteurization.

15. Dutee Chand named in TIME 100 Next list

India sprinter Dutee Chand has been named in the TIME 100 Next, an expansion of the TIME 100 list of the most influential persons in the world. The list, an initiative of TIME magazine, highlights 100 rising stars who are shaping the future of business, entertainment, sports, politics, health, science, activism etc.

16. ‘Kerala Rafi’ Cochin Azad is no more

Singer Azad Yusuf, popularly known as Cochin Azad, who was famous for his renditions of Mohammed Rafi songs, passed away. He was 62. Kochi native Azad had been an integral part of Cochin-based Mehboob Memorial Orchestra (MMO) since 2005 and had sung Rafi’s songs at more than 1,000 stages in India and abroad.
