- BSE appoints S Ravi as its new chairman
Eminent chartered accountant Sethurathnam Ravi has been appointed as the chairman of the leading stock exchange BSE.
Ravi, who was a public interest director at the BSE, replaces Dhirendra Swarup. Also, he is a member of Sebi’s takeover panel, as well as mutual funds advisory committee.
- AXA appoints Gordon Watson CEO of Asia
Global insurance company AXA has announced the appointment of Gordon Watson as the Chief Executive Officer of Asia, which includes Japan, and a Member of the Management Committee of the AXA Group.
He will assume the role on January 1, 2018 and will report to Thomas Buberl, Chief Executive Officer of AXA.
- TN govt starts free coaching for competitive exams like NEET
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami was launched a project to provide free coaching for Plus-Two students to enable them take competitive examinations, including the controversial National Eligibility- cum-Entrance Test or NEET.
Billed as the first-of-its-kind initiative in the country, there will be 412 training centres across the State (one per panchayat union).
The scheme will benefit students in government and government-aided schools. So far, around 73,000 students have enrolled for training. As many as 25 centres started functioning.
- Andhra Pradesh hosts its first Hot Air Balloon Festival
The Araku valley near Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh is all set to host the first edition of its Hot Air Balloon Festival.
The three-day-long event will see participation from the US, Switzerland, Japan, Malaysia and Taiwan, among the 13 participating countries.
The Hot Air Balloon festival is being organsied to promote tourism. Known for its coffee plantations, rich cultural heritage and stunning waterfalls, Araku valley is a known destination on the country’s tourist map.
- Cashless medical facility to be launched in Haryana on Nov 30
The Haryana government will launch cashless medical facility on November 30, under which treatment costing up to Rs five lakh will be provided to its regular employees and pensioners.
The facility will cover cardiac, brain haemorrhage, coma, accidents, dialysis, CT scan, MRI and cardiac cath lab tests.
The facility would be available at all 67 government hospitals, medical colleges and empanelled hospitals. In these hospitals, employees and pensioners would not have to pay medical bills of up to Rs five lakh.
- India to become world’s 3rd largest economy by 2028: BofA
India is likely to achieve strong growth over the next decade and will overtake Japan in nominal GDP by 2028, to emerge as the world’s third-largest economy, says a foreign brokerage Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BoAML).
The country has already overtaken Brazil and Russia to emerge as the second-largest Brics economy after China and is well on track to cross France and Britain to emerge as the world’s fifth-largest economy after Germany by 2019.

IndiaFirst Life Insurance, a joint venture between Bank of Baroda, Andhra Bank and Legal and General (UK), introduced Little Champ – a plan benefiting children by way of regular guaranteed payouts for financing their education and securing their future.
It is a non linked, participating, endowment insurance plan which provides comprehensive financial protection for a child.
- India’s first wave-powered navigational buoy launched
A wave-powered navigational buoy, developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), to guide ships in and out of ports, was launched in Chennai.
The buoy, deployed at Ennore Kamarajar Port In chennai, will help ships, moving in and out of the harbour, navigate through a designated channel.
The buoy was launched by Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences M Rajeevan on the eve of the 33rd executive committee meet of International Energy Agency-Ocean Energy Systems Collaboration Programme (IEA-OES).

- Indian, Kazakhstan armies end joint military exercise in HP
Indian and Kazakh armies have completed the second edition of their joint military exercise – Prabal Dostyk – in Himachal Pradesh in a significant step towards fostering military and diplomatic ties between the two countries.
The first edition of Prabal Dostyk – Robust Friendship – was held in Kazakhstan, a major central Asian state and India’s largest trading partner in the minerals-rich region, in 2016.
- China launches world’s first fully electric cargo ship
China has launched the world’s first all-electric ship, which can travel up to 80km with 2000-tonnes cargo after a two-hour charge.
The 70.5-metre-long ship, which weighs about 600 tonnes, was launched in Guangzhou in South China’s Guangdong Province.
The vessel, manufactured by the Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Ltd, is powered by a 26-tonne lithium battery. It can cruise at the top speed of 12.8 km per hour.
- India to arm Sukhoi fighters with BrahMos cruise missiles
Indian armed forces are preparing to have a ‘deadly combination’ in their armoury. This week, supersonic cruise missile BrahMos is slated to be test-fired from a Sukhoi-30MKI fighter jet. It will be for the first time that such a test would be undertaken.
It may be noted that BrahMos cruise missile travels at a speed three times that of sound at Mach 2.8. On the other hand, the fighter jet has a cruising range of 3,200 kilometres.
- Syria signs up to Paris Agreement
Syria has officially signed up to the Paris Agreement, leaving the United States as the only country to reject the global climate-rescue pact.
War-torn Syria became the 169th of 196 countries that are members of the UN climate convention to take the legal step of ratification.
After Nicaragua signed up in October, Syria was the only country not to have adopted the pact.
- Saudi Arabia recognises yoga as sports activity
Saudi Arabia has approved teaching of Yoga and declared it as a sport. An individual who wants to practice yoga can avail a licence to do so, as per the Saudi Ministry of Trade and Industry.
Nouf Marwaai has become the first certified yoga instructor and the credit for the move goes to her.
- World’s first drug with digital tracking approved in US
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved the first drug in the U.S. with a digital ingestion tracking system.
Abilify MyCite (aripiprazole tablets with sensor) has an ingestible sensor embedded in the pill that records that the medication was taken.
The product is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia, acute treatment of manic and mixed episodes associated with bipolar I disorder and for use as an add-on treatment for depression in adults.
- FIH signs with YouTube to broadcast Hockey World League Finals
The International Hockey Federation (FIH) was announced a commercial partnership with YouTube to provide broadcast coverage of the Hockey World League Finals to be held in Bhubaneswar next month.
This unique partnership will give access to billions of sports fans looking to tune in to all the action from the Women’s Hockey World League Final in Auckland (17-26 November) and the Men’s Hockey World League Final in Bhubaneswar (1-10 December) 2018.
- National Wrestling Championship to begin on Nov 15 in Indore
Indore will be hosting the National Wrestling Championship.The championship will start on November 15 at Khel Prashal.
The 62nd Senior National Wrestling Championship, organised by the Madhya Pradesh Wrestling Association, will be a three-day-long event.

Aditi Ashok has qualified for the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship on the LPGA, becoming the first from the country to play in the prestigious meet.

Senior Trinamool Congress leader Abdul Mannan Hossain died. He was 65.
He was a Congress leader and a two term MP of the party from 2004-2014. Earlier he was an MLA of Congress from 1987.
- Veteran actress Shyama passes away at 82
Veteran actress Shyama, who appeared in films like Aar Paar, Barsaat Ki Raat, Sawan Bhadi, Milan and Sharada, passed away on Novemver 14.
Shyama acted in about 175 movies in her decades-spanning career. She was awarded the Filmfare Award Best Supporting Actress award for her role in Sharada.
