  1. Bhaskar Ganguly Appointed AIFF Ombudsman by Supreme Court

The Supreme Court had appointed former football captain Bhaskar Ganguly as ombudsman, says All India Football Federation (AIFF).

The AIFF stated that the apex court also appointed S Y Quraishi, former Chief Election Commissioner of India, who has also served as Secretary in the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India as the ombudsmen to formulate the AIFF Constitution within eight weeks.

  1. Urdu declared as second official language in Telengana

Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekhar Rao recently declared Urdu as the state’s second official language.

Now all government offices from the Chief Minister’s office to District Collectorate will receive all petitions in Urdu also. Every office in Telangana will have an Urdu-speaking officer. All competitive examinations in the state will also be conducted in Urdu.

According to the Article 345 “Official language or languages of a State- subject to the provisions of articles 346 and 347, the legislature of a State may by law adopt any one or more of the languages in use in the State or Hindi as the Language or Languages to be used for all or any of the official purposes of that State.

  1. Delhi to host Biggest Asean-India business summit in January 2018

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the largest so far Asean-India business and investment summit is slated to be held in New Delhi in January next year.

To coincide with the Asean-India Commemorative Summit in January an Asean-India Business and Investment meet and expo will be held which will be the biggest Asean focused event that India has ever organized.

  1. WCD Ministry to celebrate Child Rights Week by hosting an inter CCI Festival “Hausala 2017”

T he Ministry of Women and Child Development will celebrate the Child Rights Week (Hausla 2017) from 16th to 20th November, 2017.

 The country celebrates the Children’s Day on 14th November and the International Child Rights Day is celebrated on 20th November every year.

The commemoration of the festival “Hausala 2017” will provide an occasion to showcase the talents of children from CCIs   from various child care institutions across the country and provide them with a space to express their dreams and aspiration.

  1. India’s First Cartoon Network Theme Park to Come up in Gujarat

Broadcaster Turner International India and Gujarat-based Rajgreen Group have entered into a brand partnership to set up Amaazia – India’s first Cartoon Network branded amusement park, in Surat.

Rajgreen Group is investing Rs. 450 crore in the venture and the park is expected to be operational by the first quarter of 2019.Cartoon Network’s popular characters including Ben 10, The Powerpuff Girls and Adventure Time will be part of Amaazia’s amusement park section.

  1. Govt to launch project to connect 1.5L rural areas with WiFi

The government will start its second and final phase of BharatNet project – with an outlay of around Rs 34,000 crore — to provide high-speed broadband in all panchayats by March 2019.

Under the project, the government aims to connect 1.5 lakh panchayats through 10 lakh kilometres of additional optical fibre and give bandwidth to telecom players at nearly 75 per cent cheaper price for broadband and wifi services in rural areas.

  1. India’s first ever ‘Air Dispensary to start soon in North-East

Northeast is all set to get India’s first-ever “Air Dispensary” based in a helicopter and the Union Ministry of Development of Northeast (DONER) has already contributed Rs. 25 crore as part of the initial funding for this initiative.

The DoNER Ministry had been exploring the idea of introducing a helicopter based Dispensary/OPD service in such far flung and remote areas, where no doctor or medical facility was available and the patient, in need, also did not have any access to any medical care.

  1. IORA to set up Centre of Excellence in Kochi

The Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA), common platform of 21 countries including India and geographically bordering Indian Ocean, is to set up a Centre of Excellence in Kochi.

IORA is a regional forum of countries, tripartite in nature, bringing together representatives of government, business and academia, for promoting co-operation and closer interaction among Indian Ocean bordering countries. The headquarters of IORA is located at Ebene, Mauritius.

  1. PM inaugurates rice field lab named after him in Philippines

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was tried a hand at agriculture as he visited the International Rice Research Institute in Los Banos, Philippines.

 He also inaugurated the Resilient Rice Field Laboratory. The PM is in the Philippines to attend the India-ASEAN summit.

At the institute, PM Modi listened patiently about various interesting researches on rice. He was briefed about the flood-tolerant rice varieties that can withstand submergence for 14-18 days.

  1. India, US, Japan, Australia hold 1st meet; to work for open Indo-Pacific zone

Officials from India, the US, Japan, and Australia have  held extensive talks to pursue common interests in the strategically important Indo-Pacific region where China has been aggressively expanding its military presence.

In the meeting, seen as the first major move in formation of the quadrilateral security dialogue — or ‘quad’, the officials deliberated on evolving security scenario in the Indo-Pacific region besides delving into effectively combating threat of terrorism and other security challenges.

  1. Amazon shuts down product discovery platform Junglee

Amazon has reportedly shut down online product discovery platform, Junglee. Launched in February 2012, more than a year before Amazon.in came into existence, Junglee represents the global e-commerce giant’s first steps into the Indian market.

The online product discovery service has been integrated into Amazon India and will henceforth be a part of Local Finds, a platform launched officially this July for customers to find and sell used and new goods.

  1. 25th APEC SUMMIT held in Vietnam

Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit was held at Da Nang,Vietnam. The theme of the summit was “Creating New Dynamism,Fostering a Shared Future”. Vietnam was holding the summit for the 2nd time.

26th Summit in 2018 will be organised at Papua New Guinea. Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit laid emphasis on collaborative activity.

USA called for support to fair trade while China expressed support for further Globalisation which appears to be contrasting views on economic integration.

  1. Uber approves investment from Softbank

Uber Technologies Inc. approved SoftBank Group Corp.’s offer to buy a multibillion-dollar stake in the ride-hailing company, setting the stage for one of the largest private start-up deals ever.

The agreement lets SoftBank and other firms invest up to $1 billion in Uber and proceed with a tender offer in coming weeks to buy up to $9 billion in shares from existing investors. The deal could still fall through if there aren’t enough interested sellers. The deal also includes Uber governance changes.

  1. Golfer Vani Kapoor finishes tied 6th at Women’s Indian Open

 Vani Kapoor was finished the opening day at tied-4th place in the 11th Hero Women’s Indian Open at the DLF Golf and Country Club.

Vani, who is playing her seventh Women’s Indian Open but fifth as a pro, used her course knowledge to come back from being two-over after five holes to finish with 69.

  1. Marc Márquez wins 4 MotoGP world titles in 5 years

Marc Márquez won his fourth MotoGP world title in five years after Andrea Dovizioso crashed during the season-concluding Valencia Grand Prix.

In Moto2, Miguel Oliviera won ahead of the champion Franco Morbidelli. In Moto3, the pole-sitter Jorge Martin won the race ahead of champion Joan Mir. It was Martin’s first race victory.

  1. Mithali Raj named Sportswoman of the Year

The Indian women’s cricket team won the Team of the Year Award at the inaugural edition of Indian Sports Honours, a set of awards meant to recognise the contributions of various sportspersons in the country.

The team’s captain Mithali Raj also bagged the Indian Sportswoman of the Year (Team Sports) award at the ceremony held in Mumbai.

The Indian players were bestowed the honour on the back of their superb performances at the ICC Women’s World Cup in England.

  1. Sebastian Vettel wins Brazilian Grand Prix

Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel took his first victory since July at the Brazilian Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton battled from the back to finish fourth. Hamilton who clinched his fourth world championship in Mexico two weeks ago.
