1. November 12: Public Service Broadcasting Day
Every year 12 November is celebrated as Public Service Broadcasting Day to commemorate the first and only last live visit of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, to the studio of All India Radio, Delhi in 1947. He addressed the displaced people from AIR studio, who had temporarily settled at Kurukshetra in Haryana after partition.
2. Swachh- Nirmal Tat Abhiyaan
Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) is undertaking a mass cleanliness-cum-awareness drive in 50 identified beaches under the programme called ‘Swachh- Nirmal Tat Abhiyaan’, from 11 -17 November 2019.
Objective: To strive to make coastal areas across country clean, and to create awareness amongst citizens about the importance of coastal ecosystems so as to save marine creatures from plastic waste, industrial effluents and other harmful substances.
3. NASA: A Huge X Ray burst detected from outer space
NASA’s NICER (Neutron star Interior Composition Explorer) telescope detected a sudden spike of X Rays. The spike was caused by a massive thermo nuclear flash on the surface of a pulsar.
4. Justice Sanjay Karol sworn in as Chief Justice of Patna HC
Justice Sanjay Karol has been sworn in as the 43rd Chief Justice of Patna High Court. His oath for office and secrecy was administered by Bihar Governor Phagu Chauhan at the Raj Bhavan in Patna. He succeeded Justice Amreshwar Pratap Sahi, who has been transferred as Chief Justice of Madras High Court, Chennai.
His swearing-in ceremony was also attended by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, state ministers, judges of the High Court and other senior officials.
5. Kung Fu Nuns received Asia Society’s Game Changer Award
The Kung Fu Nuns of the Drukpa Order, some of the Himalayas’ most prominent human rights advocates, received Asia Society’s prestigious Game Changer Award in New York for their path-breaking work to empower women and dismantle gender stereotypes in Himalayas. They received the award for their heroic activism and being a true symbol of women empowerment.
With this recognition, the Kung Fu Nuns join the likes of iconic Indian leaders Indra Nooyi, Dev Patel and Mukesh Ambani who have also been honored by Asia Society in previous years for breaking the glass ceiling with their courage and inspiring their fellow citizens.
6. Iran discovers new oil field with 53 Bn barrels of reserves
Iran has discovered a new oilfield with 53 billion barrels of crude oil in Khuzestan province, home to Iran’s Khuzestan’s crucial oil industry. The announcement however did not reveal how much oil could be produced from the reservoir but the find could boost country’s battered economy amid stringent US sanctions.
7. President’s Rule imposed in Maharashtra after parties fail to form govt
President Ram Nath Kovind has accepted the recommendation of Union Cabinet for the imposition of President’s Rule in Maharashtra. This comes after Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari submitted a report to the Centre after parties failed to form the government in the state. Governor had invited BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP to stake claim to form the government.
8. Anjani Kumar appointed as the Ambassador of India to the Republic of Mali
Shri Anjani Kumar has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Republic of Mali. The appointment was announced by the Ministry of external affairs (MEA). Anjani Kumar is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) Officer of batch 2003. He will be replacing Pradeep Kumar Gupta.
9. Suranga Bawadi entered the World Monuments Watch List
Suranga Bawadi has entered the World Monuments Watch List under the Ancient Water System of the Deccan Plateau of the World Monument Funds. It is situated in Bijapur, Karnataka. It is an integral part of the ancient Karez System by which water was supplied through subterranean tunnels.
10. World Pneumonia Day observed on November 12
World Pneumonia Day (12 November) provides an annual forum for the world to stand together and demand action in the fight against pneumonia. More than 100 organizations representing the interests of children joined forces as the Global Coalition against Child Pneumonia to hold the first World Pneumonia Day on 2 November 2009.
11. Prakash Javadekar gets heavy industries portfolio as Arvind Sawant quits
The President of India has assigned Union Minister Prakash Javadekar the heavy industries and public enterprises portfolio after Arvind Sawant, the minister in charge, resigned. Javadekar is already in charge of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
12. Asian Shooting Championship: Saurabh Chaudhary wins 10m air pistol silver
Teen shooter Saurabh Chaudhary claimed the silver medal in men’s 10m air pistol event to continue India’s surge at the 14th asian championship. The 17-year-old World Cup and the Asian Games gold-medallist shot 244.5 to finish second on the podium behind North Korea’s Kim Song Guk, who won the top prize with a world record 246.5.
13. Assam Industries & Commerce dept signs MoU with Malaysia India Business Council
Assam Industries and Commerce Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Malaysia India Business Council (MIBC) to improve the two-way trade and investment between India and Malaysia.
14. Javelin thrower Sundar Singh wins gold in World Para Athletics Championships
Javelin thrower Sundar Singh Gurjar has won India’s second gold defending his World Para Athletics Championships title in the men’s F46 javelin throw event in Dubai. With this, India has secured three Tokyo Paralympic Games quota, along with the bronze winner Ajeet Singh and Rinku.
15. Dharmendra Pradhan to visit to UAE for ADIPEC
Minister of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan has arrived in UAE on Sunday to participate in the Inaugural Ministerial Session of Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) and a Ministerial Panel Discussion. He is visiting on the invitation of UAE Minister of State and CEO, ADNOC Dr. Sultan Ahmad Al Jaber.
