1. India celebrates the National Education Day on 11 November

National Education Day is celebrated on 11 November in India. The day aims to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

History:

On 11 September 2008, the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) had decided to celebrate 11 November as National Education Day. The ministry decided to commemorate the birthday of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad for his contribution to the cause of education in India. The National education day is celebrated from the year 2008.

2. The 27th Conference of COCSSO is being held in Kolkata

The 27th Conference of Central and State Statistical Organizations (COCSSO) is being at Kolkata, West Bengal. It is being held from 11-12 November 2019. It was inaugurated by Prof. Bimal K Roy, Chairman, National Statistical Commission.

Theme: The theme of the conference was the Sustainable Development Goals. The theme highlighted the measures taken by MoSPI for a robust monitoring mechanism for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

3. Sanskrit Bharati Vishwa Sammelan organized in New Delhi

The first ever Sanskrit Bharati Vishwa Sammelan or Sanskrit World Conference was organised in New Delhi from 9 to 11 November 2019. In this first-of-its-kind global conference, thousands of delegates and Sanskrit lovers from across the world participated.

4. Marengo Sachintendulkar: Newly discovered spider species named after cricketer

Dhruv Prajapati, a junior researcher pursuing a PhD in spider taxonomy with Gujarat Ecological Education & Research (GEER) Foundation, recently discovered two new species of spiders. He has named one of the species as Marengo sachintendulkar after Indian crickter Sachin Tendulkar and other as Indomarengo Chavarapatera which is inspired by Saint Kuriakose Elias Chavara who was a campaigned towards creating awareness about education in Kerala.

5. Indian Oil to set up new 2G Ethanol Plant in Panipat

The Indian Oil Corporation recently received environment clearance from Ministry of EFoCC (Environment, Forest and Climate Change), to set up a new 2G Ethanol plant at Panipat. Indian Oil will invest Rs 766 crore in setting up the plant.

6. China Open: Kento Momota Retains China Open Crown, Wins 10th Title In 2019

Kento Momota won his 10th title of a remarkable year as Japan’s world number one defeated Chou Tien-chen to retain his Fuzhou China Open badminton crown. Home hope Chen Yufei similarly successfully defended the women’s title with a gritty victory over Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara. Reigning two-time world champion Momota battled past Taiwan’s world number two Chou 21-15, 17-21, 21-18 in a repeat of last year’s final.

7. Mumbai : Indo French Investment Conclave in GOA

Indo French Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IFCCI) is organizing one of the biggest events of the chamber ‘Indo-French Investment Conclave’, 8th November 2019 in Goa.

8. India Justice Report, 2019 : Ranking states on Police, Judiciary, Prisons & Legal Aid

This is the first-ever ranking of Indian states on justice delivery. The report has divided states on the basis of the population into two parts:

  • The large-medium states (Population 1 crore and above)
  • The small states and Union Territories (Population less than 1 crore)

Maharashtra has topped the list among large-medium States followed by Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Haryana. In this category, Jharkhand, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh are at the bottom. Goa leads the list of smaller states followed by Sikkim and Himachal Pradesh.

The report has been prepared based on publicly available data of different government entities on the four pillars of justice delivery — police, judiciary, prisons, and legal aid.

9. Shiv Sena MP Arvind Sawant announces decision to quit as Union minister amid power tussle with BJP in Maharashtra

Union Heavy Industries Minister and Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant on Monday announced his decision to quit the NDA government at the Centre. The Sena’s lone minister in the Modi Cabinet took to Twitter to announce his decision, a day after Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari invited his party to stake claim to form government in the state.

10. SBI Life, ICICI Pru Life to enter MSCI India index

Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) recently re-balanced its India index under its semi-annual review. Of the eight additions it did to the index, two belong to the insurance sector – SBI Life and ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, possibly underlining brighter prospects in the segment.

11. Former Chief Election Commissioner TN Seshan passes away

Tirunellai Narayana Iyer (TN ) Seshan, former Chief Election Commissioner and the man responsible for ushering in electoral reforms passed away following a cardiac arrest. He was 87 years old and was not keeping good health for the past couple of years. TN Seshan was the 10th Chief Election Commissioner and had served form December 12, 1990, till December 11, 1996.

12. Shafali Verma shatters idol Sachin Tendulkar’s record, is youngest Indian to score international 50

Shafali Verma, now 15 years and 285 days old, shattered her idol’s 30-year-old record when she became the youngest Indian to score an international fifty in the first T20 international against the West Indies in St Lucia. Tendulkar was 16 years and 214 days when he notched up his maiden half-century.
