1. ADB approves $300 million for power transmission expansion in Bangladesh
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a 300 million dollar loan for a project to expand power transmission lines in Greater Dhaka and the western zone of Bangladesh.
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank has 200 million dollars in co-financing to fund transmission lines, substations, and an enterprise resource planning system. The assistance also comprises a 750,000 dollar grant from China’s Poverty Reduction and Regional Cooperation Fund.
2. Uttarakhand celebrating its Foundation Day on November 9th
Uttarakhand is celebrating its Foundation Day. It became a State of the Union, after separation from Uttar Pradesh. Police Parade, Marathons, and cultural programmes are being organized across the 13 districts of the state.
Trivendra Singh Rawat flagged off Cultural Procession in the state capital. The hill state of Uttarakhand as it is known today carved out of Uttar Pradesh on 9th of November 2000, under the BJP Government, after a long-drawn agitation.President Ram Nath Kovind extended his greetings and good wishes to the people of Uttarakhand on statehood day.
3. Google celebrates 30th anniversary of fall of Berlin Wall
German marks the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall with rallies, memorials, and exhibitions. A bronze statue of late US President Ronald Reagan, clutching the cards inscribed with his 1987 speech challenging Mikhail Gorbachev, was unveiled by US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Germany’s capital city on the eve of the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. The statue located in the US Embassy overlooks the landmark.

5. Tencent buys 10% of Policybazaar, enters India insurance market
Tencent Holdings Ltd. has acquired a minority stake in Policybazaar.com valuing the Indian online insurance aggregator at $1.5 billion, according to a person familiar with the deal, as it tries to get a foothold in the country’s burgeoning insurance sector.
The Chinese technology giant bought 10% of Policybazaar, half of Tiger Global Management LLC’s stake in the company, the person said, asking not be identified as the matter was not public. The $150 million deal was signed earlier this week, the person added.
6. India to host men’s Hockey World Cup in 2023
India will host the Men’s Hockey World Cup for the second consecutive time after the country was picked to host the game’s showpiece event in 2023 by the International Hockey Federation (FIH) in Lausanne.
According to the FIH, the Men’s Hockey World Cup will be held in India from January 13 to 29.
7. FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup: Thomas Dennerby takes charge as Indian Head Coach
Sweden’s Thomas Dennerby has been appointed as the Head Coach of the Indian Women’s U-17 team, AIFF announced.
The 60-year-old guided the Swedish Women’s National Team to a third-place finish in the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Germany in 2011 and a quarterfinal spot in the 2012 London Olympics
8. Naftali Bennett approved as new defence minister of Israel
Naftali Bennett approved as new defence minister of Israel. Jerusalem, Nov 10 (IANS) Israel”s pro-settler lawmaker Naftali Bennett was approved by the cabinet as defence minister.
Bennett, leader of the right-wing party New Right, will replace Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who held also the portfolio of the defense ministry, Xinhua news agency reported.
9. Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey confers the National Entrepreneurship Awards 2019 to Enterprises and Ecosystem builders
Minister of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dr Mahendra Nath Pandey conferred the National Entrepreneurship Awards 2019 to Enterprises and Ecosystem builders here. The fourth edition of the award ceremony was organized today to mark the completion of 5 years of setting up of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship in 2014.
The awards aim to recognize and honour the outstanding young First-Generation Entrepreneurs, and Ecosystem builders for their outstanding contribution in entrepreneurship development and providing support to the entrepreneurs.
10. RBI increases household income limits for borrowers of NBFCs and MFIs
Reserve Bank of India increased the household income limits for borrowers of Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) and microfinance institutions (MFIs) from 1 lakh to 1.25 lakh rupees.
Aim:
The move is aimed at strengthening credit to those at the bottom of the economic pyramid in rural areas. The limit is increased from 1.6 lakh for urban or semi-urban areas to 2 lakh rupees. The limit has been increased after taking into consideration the important role played by microfinance institutions in delivering credit to those at the bottom of the economic pyramid and to enable them to play their assigned role in a growing economy.
