Philippines’ Karen Ibasco, who was crowned Miss Earth 2017 on November 4th at the Mall of Asia Arena, is winning hearts with her response to the final question and answer segment in the competition.

Before Karen, Karla Henry (2008), Jamie Herrell (2014), and Angelia Ong (2015) from the Philippines have won this award.

  1. Israel honors Natalie Portman with ‘Jewish Nobel Prize’

Natalie Portman has been awarded Israel’s 2018 Genesis Prize in recognition of her commitment to social causes and deep connection to her Jewish and Israeli roots, organizers of the prize announced.

The $1 million award, known as “the Jewish Nobel Prize,” is granted each year to a person recognised as an inspiration to the next generation of Jews through professional achievement and commitment to Jewish values.

  1. Inderjit Badhwar to represent India at Prague Writers Festival

Award-winning writer and veteran journalist Inderjit Badhwar has been chosen by the Prague Writers Festival (PWF) to represent India at its annual literary conclave to be held at the European city of Spires.

A Pulitzer nominee, Badhwar was awarded France’s top “Prix Literaire” in the category of “Best Foreign Debut Novel of the Year” for his book “The Chamber of Perfumes”.

  1. Vice Prez to inaugurate agrovision summit in Nagpur

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the 9th Agrovision Summit in Nagpur on November 10. The three-day summit will be held at the Reshimbagh ground.

According to organisers, a mega agri expo and free workshops for farmers will be held during the summit, besides a livestock demo and a conference on allied agriculture.

  1. CIL launches ‘Grahak Sadak Koyla Vitaran App’

Public sector undertaking Coal India has launched the ‘Grahak Sadak Koyla Vitaran App’ aimed at benefitting customers of the company that are being supplied coal by road.

The app will allow users to monitor, whether the despatches are made on the fair principle of ‘First in First Out’ and keeps track of all the activities from issuance of sale order to physical delivery of coal by road.

  1. Maneka Gandhi launches ‘first of its kind’ portal for sexual harassment complaints

Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Gandhi has launched an online portal for registering complaint related to sexual harassment in non-government and government organisations.

The comprehensive online complaint system- ‘SHe-box’ (sexual harassment electronic box) – will be hosted on the website of the Ministry Of Women and Child Development.

  1. Nasscom to host Game Developer Conference in Hyderabad

The National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) will be hosting ninth edition of Nasscom Game Developer Conference (NGDC) — 2017 from November 8-11 here.

A statement issued by the IT and ITES body said recognising the burgeoning gaming market in India, NGDC 2017 will be dedicated to the advancement of interactive entertainment through talks, panels, pitches, tutorials and more.

  1. Long-range cruise missile ‘Nirbhay’ test-fired

India has conducted a flight test of its indigenously designed and developed long-range sub-sonic cruise missile ‘Nirbhay’, which can carry warheads of up to 300 kg from a test range at Chandipur along the Odisha coast.

This was the fifth experimental test of the homegrown missile system. Defence scientists are hopeful of a flawless trial this time. Out of four earlier trials since its maiden launch in 2013, only one was successful.

  1. Indian women’s hockey team to get 1L each for Asia Cup win

Following Indian Women’s team’s title win in Asia Cup, Hockey India on November 06 announced a cash award of Rs one lakh each to the 18-member squad.

India outplayed China 5-4 in shootout in the final. Apart from the title triumph the India team also secured a World Cup berth. Coach Harendra Singh will also gets Rs 1 lakh and members of the support staff Rs 50,000 each.
