  1. National Mission for Clean Ganga Organises Ek Shaam Ganga Ke Naam

River Ganga has been an unceasing source of livelihood for more than 40 percent of India’s population. It has been unconditionally providing for our needs and has been the very essence of spirituality.

In order to acknowledge the river’s importance and celebrate its magnificence, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) organised a cultural evening – “Ek Shaam Ganga ke Naam” in New Delhi. On this date in 2008, Ganga was declared as the National River of India.

  1. First Heli Expo India & International Civil Helicopter Conclave Inaugurated

The 1st Heli Expo India and International Civil Helicopter Conclave-2017 is inaugurated in New Delhi by the Uttrakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaja ji.

This two days 1st Heli Expo India & International Civil Helicopter Conclave-2017 is organised by Pawan Hans Limited, a Mini Ratna company of Ministry of Civil Aviation in association with PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The theme of this conclave is ‘Enhancing Connectivity’ at the Pawan Hans Heliport, Rohini, New Delhi.

  1. Two-day Sagar Kavach exercise starts on November 8 in Goa

The two-day Coastal Security Exercise ‘Sagar Kavach’ is scheduled on November 8 and 9, 2017 to provide seamless seaward cover along the Goa Coast jointly by all security agencies from coastal belt area line to the limit of territorial water i.e 12 nautical miles.

The exercise will also assess the effectiveness of coastal fishing community in serving as ‘Eye and Ears’ for early warning of seaward threat.

The Coastal Security exercise is being conducted and coordinated by Indian Coast Guard, District Headquarter at Goa.

  1. Inauguration of Three-Day International Conference – ‘FIPSPHYSIOCON 2017’

FIPSPHYSIOCON 2017”, Conference on Human Physiology – VII Congress of Federation of Indian Physiological Societies (FIPS) along with XXIX Annual Conference of the Physiological Society of India (PSI) organised by Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Science (DIPAS) of DRDO was inaugurated at Vallabhbhai Patel Chest Institute (VPCI), University of Delhi.

The objective of the conference is to update the scientific community about most recent advances in human Physiology in extreme environments, Neuroscience, Yoga, Sport Physiology and translational research.

  1. Real-time satellite imagery to help track health of mangrove forests in Maharashtra

The health of mangroves in Maharashtra will now be monitored using real-time satellite images.

The state mangrove cell has approved a proposal from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology in Valiamala, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.

The research project commissioned to track the health of mangrove forests using real-time satellite remote sensing data.

This is the first time any state in India has allocated its resources to survey mangrove cover along its coastline.

  1. Goa to Host Nobel Prize Event in February 2018

The Goa government has executed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India (GoI) and Nobel Media, Sweden to hold the ‘Nobel Prize Series.

India 2018 (Science Impacts Life)’ to be held from February 1-28 next year along with a month-long exhibition brought from Nobel Museum, Sweden. The Nobel series has earlier been organised in Gujarat.

  1. India, Bangladesh to hold joint military combat exercise

The Indian and the Bangladeshi army are all set to take part in an intensive combat exercise at India’s Counter-Insurgency and Jungle Warfare School at Vairengte in Mizoram.

As per reports, “Exercise Sampriti” will be conducted from November 6 to 18. The military combat exercise is organised to conduct counter-insurgency and counter-terrorism operations in a semi-mountainous jungle terrain to bolster bilateral military ties.

  1. November 05, 2017: Tsunami Awareness Day

In December 2015, the United Nations General Assembly designated 5 November as World Tsunami Awareness Day to promote a global culture of tsunami awareness.

For the second year in a row, the World Tsunami Awareness Day will align with the International Day for Disaster Reduction and the “Sendai Seven Campaign” and will focus in 2017 on Target B of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction which aims at reducing the number of affected people globally by disasters.

  1. China to build world’s highest planetarium in Tibet in 2018

China will begin construction of the world’s highest planetarium next year in Tibet. The planetarium, which is Chinas first, will have the region’s largest optical astronomical telescope, with a 1- meter-diameter lens, and become a major regional base for astronomical research and public science education

The planetarium, with the highest altitude in the world, will become a perfect window for the public to get to know the stars and explore the universe, thanks to little air or light pollution in the region.

  1. Indian women win Asia Cup, qualify for Hockey World Cup

India edged past China 5-4 via shootout to win the women’s Asia Cup hockey title. India also qualified for next year’s World Cup as Continental champion.

It was skipper Rani Rampal who scored the winning goal while Savita Punia made a great save in sudden death.
