1. German to invest 1 billion euros for creating friendly urban mobility
The German Chancellor Dr.Angela Merkel announced that Germany would invest 1 billion euros over the next five years. The purpose of the investment is environmentally-friendly urban mobility in India. Germany also plans to invest 200 million euros in reforming the bus sector in Tamil Nadu.
FTA:
On 1st November, India and Germany agreed to deepen efforts to restart the stalled negotiations for a free trade agreement (FTA) between India and the European Union (EU). The failure of India anad Germany to bridge substantial gaps on import issues has stalled the FTA negotiations since 2013.
2. Rajinikanth to be conferred the Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI award
The Government is to confer the Icon of Golden Jubilee of IFFI award to the eminent film personality Shri S Rajinikanth. It was announced by the Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Shri Prakash Javadekar, in New Delhi on 2 November 2019. The award recognizes his outstanding contribution to Indian cinema, during the past several decades.
3. Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the robotic surgery facility in SJH
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan inaugurated the robotic surgery facility in the Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi.
Safdarjung Hospital:
Safdarjang Hospital (SJH) is one of the biggest tertiary care referral centre of India. It functions under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. SJH caters to all poor patients of uro-oncological cancers like kidney, bladder cancers, prostate, and kidney failures across India.
4. India, Uzbekistan to sign MoUs for military medicine and military education
India and Uzbekistan are planning to sign two memorandum of understanding (MOUs) concerning military medicine and military education. The 2 MoUs were signed during the three-day visit of the Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh to Uzbekistan, the Central Asian nation.
5. 8th Indo German Energy Forum
The eighth Indo-German Energy Forum was conducted in Delhi to enhance cooperation in the energy sector. Both the countries signed eight agreements in the following sectors
- Thermal Power Plants
- Demand-side energy
- renewable energies
- low carbon growth strategies
- green energy corridors
6. SCOJtEx-2019: Shanghai Cooperation Organization Joint Exercise
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will inaugurate the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Joint Exercise on Urban Earthquake Search and Rescue- ‘SCOJtEx-2019’ in New Delhi. The four day exercise will be held from 4-7 November 2019. The joint exercise is being hosted by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The SCOJtEx will be followed by a meeting between SCO experts and officials of ministries responsible for prevention as well as elimination of emergency situations.
7. India to host 20th SCO’s CHG meeting in 2020
The Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh addressed the Council of Heads of Government of SCO at Tashkent in Uzbekistan. He represented as a Special Envoy of PM Modi at the conference. During the meet, it was decided that the next meeting of Council of Heads of Government in 2020 is to be conducted in India
8. Serbia’s Sara Damnjanovic crowned Miss Asia Global 2019
Sara Damnjanovic from Serbia was crowned ‘Miss Asia Global 2019’ at the international beauty contest held in Kerala. Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Yen Trang was crowned ‘Miss Asia’, while Samiksha Singh from India won the sub-title of ‘Miss Beautiful Face’. Asia Global is one of the three beauty pageant contests in India which doesn’t have a bikini and other similar rounds.
9. Mangaluru to host shipping, logistics summit
Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO), in association with India Seatrade, will organise ‘Karnataka Ports Shipping and Logistics Summit 2019’ in Mangaluru on November 22.
An FIEO statement said that the Summit is an effort to bring together the maritime stakeholders across the country to present the potential that exists, to deliberate on the challenges being faced, and to evolve the way forward for a larger, inclusive and sustainable growth of the maritime industry in Karnataka.
10.U-23 World Wrestling C’ships: Pooja wins silver, Sajan eyes bronze
Wrestler Pooja Gehlot (53kg) claimed India’s second silver medal after going down to Japan’s 2017 world champion Haruna Okuno in the finals of the UWW Under-23 World Championships.
Gehlot lost 0-2 to Okuno in the summit clash to emulate Ravinder (61kg), who also won a silver earlier this week. Three-time World Junior Championships medallist Sajan Bhanwal (77kg), however, lost a close semifinal bout 4-5 to Japan’s Kodai Sakuraba. He will now fight for the bronze.
11. Korea Open Badminton: Maisnam Meiraba Luwang wins boys’ singles U-19 title
Maisnam Meiraba Luwang clinched the boys’ singles U-19 title at the Woncheon Yonex Korea Junior Open Badminton International Challenge 2019 in Miryang, Korea.The top seed from Manipur needed just 36 minutes to brush aside the challenge of 15th seed Lee Hak Joo of Korea in a 21-10 21-13 win.
12. Odisha tagged with Maharashtra under Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat
Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat is an initiative of Government of India to pay tribute to Sardar Patel, who played a key role in integrating the nation, for his great contributions to the nation.
This initiative can build bonds between the people of various States of India. This programme is giving a boost to the existing cultural connect between different parts of the country and enhancing interaction between people living in different states.
13. India Germany sign Agreements
Around 17 agreements were signed between India and Germany in the fields of agriculture, ayurveda, yoga, maritime technology and others. German Chancellor Angela Merkel along with her team, signed the agreements with PM Modi and his cabinet. The German team led by the Chancellor is on a two-day visit to India.
