- Paytm Payments Bank names ICICI Bank’s Sudhanshu Jain as CFO
Paytm Payments Bank has appointed former ICICI Bank executive Sudhanshu Jain as its chief financial officer, its holding company One97 Communications Pvt. Ltd.
Jain has 14 years of experience across internal audit, finance and borrowing roles, among others. He was earlier assistant general manager and head of borrowing at the foreign exchange desk at ICICI Bank, where he spent 11 years.

Chanda Kochhar, CEO of ICICI Bank was named the most powerful woman in India as she ranked 32nd in World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list by Forbes, followed by CEO of HCL Enterprise Roshni Nadar Malhotra, Chairperson of Biocon Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, Chairperson of Hindustan Times Group Shobhana Bhartia and actress Priyanka Chopra.

3. Mukesh Ambani becomes Asia’s richest person
Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani overtook China’s Hui Ka Yan to become Asia’s richest person with a total wealth of $42.1 billion.
According to Forbes’ real time billionaire’s list, Ambani’s personal wealth rose by $466 million, thanks to 1.22 per cent rise in shares of Reliance Industries to Rs 952.30
- Goa named safest for women in India, Bihar most unsafe
Goa has been ranked at the top spot by Plan India when it comes to safety of women. The reason for Goa being ranked as safest for women is its top spot in the Gender Vulnerability Index (GVI) in which it has scored 0.656.
The national average, on the other hand, is 0.5314. The tourist destination has also been ranked first in the protection of its people, fifth in the education sector, sixth in health, and eighth in poverty.
- Mumbai’s Royal Opera House gets UNESCO heritage award
Almost a year after it reopened, Charni Road’s Royal Opera House has been awarded the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award for Cultural Heritage Conservation.
The building was closed to the public in 1993, and sat crumbling for years, before a restoration project was undertaken eight years ago to replicate the heritage structure. It was originally inaugurated by Britain’s King George V in 1911 and completed in 1916.
- Cabinet nod for introduction of Bill to amend NCTE Act
To grant retrospective recognition to Central/ State/ Union Territory-funded institutions and universities conducting teacher education courses without National Council for Teacher Education Act, 1993 (NCTE) recognition till the academic year 2017-2018, the Union Cabinet gave its approval for introduction of a Bill in Parliament to amend the Act concerned.
The National Council for Teacher Education (Amendment) Act, 2017 will grant retrospective recognition to the Central/state universities that are found to be conducting teacher education courses without NCTE permission.
- FSSAI all set to launch ‘One Nation, One Food Law’
In a bid to bring in consistency in enforcing food safety regulations and standards across States, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is set to launch its ‘One Nation One Food Law’ initiative.
The regulator is leveraging technology for uniform implementation of norms for testing and sampling by various States and labs.
Under this initiative, FSSAI is launching the Food Safety Compliance through Regular Inspections and Sampling (FoSCoRIS) platform.
- President of India inaugurates Global Clubfoot Conference
The President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, inaugurated the Global Clubfoot Conference being organised by the CURE India in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, in New Delhi on November 1, 2017.
The clubfoot is one of the most common orthopaedic birth defects. It can cause permanent disability if not treated early. This affects the child’s mobility and confidence. Inevitably, education and schooling suffer – and the child cannot fulfil his or her potential.
- Cabinet approves trade Agreement between India and Ethiopia for strengthening and promoting trade and economic cooperation
The Union Cabinet has given its ex-post facto approval for the trade Agreement between India and Ethiopia for strengthening and promoting trade and economic co-operation.
The trade Agreement was signed on 5th October, 2017 during the State visit of the President of India to Ethiopia from 4th to 6th October, 2017.
The trade Agreement will replace the existing trade Agreement signed in 1982. The trade Agreement will provide for all necessary measures to encourage trade, economic cooperation, investment and technical co-operation.
- Cabinet approves signing an Agreement between India and Armenia on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters
The Union Cabinet has given its approval for signing and ratifying an Agreement between India and Armenia on cooperation and mutual assistance in customs matters. The Agreement will be signed on behalf of the two countries after it is approved by the respective Governments.
This Agreement shall enter into force on the first day of the second month after the Contracting Parties notify each other in through diplomatic channels, that the necessary national legal requirements for entry into force of this Agreement have been fulfilled.
- Russia to help build India-Iran natural gas pipeline
Moscow and Tehran are about to sign a memorandum of understanding to back a new gas pipeline project, according to Russian Energy Minister Aleksandr Novak.
The countries will build a 1,200-kilometer long pipeline from Iran to India with the Russian energy major Gazprom developing several Iranian deposits along the route of the future pipeline.
- NASA discovers 20 possible Earth-like exoplanets
Astronomers have added 219 candidates to the growing list of planets beyond our solar system, 10 of which may be about the same size and temperature as Earth, boosting their chances of hosting life.
Scientists found the candidates in a final batch of Nasa’s Kepler Space Telescope observations of 200,000 sample stars in the constellation Cygnus.

India registered their first-ever win against New Zealand in T20I cricket, beating the visitors by 53 runs in the first T20I.
Veteran pacer Ashish Nehra, who was playing his last international match, went wicketless. Further, opener Rohit Sharma took his sixes tally in T20 cricket to 268 in 257 matches, the most by an Indian. Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan blasted 80 each as India reached 202/3.
