1. 25-yr-old mechanical engineer Chandrani to become youngest MP ever
BJD’s Chandrani Murmu, a 25-year-old mechanical engineer who won Odisha’s reserved Keonjhar seat by defeating two-time BJP MP Ananta Nayak, will become the youngest member in Lok Sabha history. Chandrani won the seat by 66,203 votes. She will replace JJP founder Dushyant Chautala, who had become the youngest parliamentarian at 26 after being elected to 16th Lok Sabha from Hisar.
2. Naveen Patnaik to be sworn in as Odisha Chief Minister on May 29
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) chief Naveen Patnaik will be sworn in as Odisha Chief Minister on May 29 for a fifth consecutive term. The BJD won 112 of the 146 Assembly seats for which elections were held. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won 23 seats, Congress bagged nine seats, the CPI(M) one and an Independent candidate was also elected.

FIFA drops plans to expand Qatar World cup 2022 to 48 teams. FIFA has dropped the plan to include a total of 48 teams at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The 2022 edition will remain as originally planned with 32 teams.
The expansion proposal was proposed and pressed by FIFA’s president, Gianni Infantino. In January 2017, FIFA voted unanimously in favour of increasing the World Cup to 48 teams for the 2026 event – which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

He grabbed the top spot just ahead of the ODI World Cup after showcasing fine form during the tri-nation series in Ireland, which Bangladesh famously won to claim their first title in a multi-nation tournament.

German payments company Wirecard teams up with India to issue PAN cards. German payments company Wirecard would work with India to simplify the process of issuing tax identity cards required to open bank accounts, transfer money or complete business transactions.
The deal, with state company UTI Infrastructure Technology and Financial Services, seeks to widen the distribution of so-called PAN cards in India of 1.3 billion where most people still live and work in the informal economy. Wirecard, which is already present in India, with its network of 15,000 retail agents in 350 cities would help collect and scan in the documents that people need to apply for a PAN card.

Lieutenant General Shailesh Tinaikar has been appointed as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) by UN Secretary-General António Guterres. He served in the UN Angola Verification Mission III from 1996 to 1997, and in the UN Mission in Sudan from 2008 to 2009. Lieutenant General Tinaikar is currently Commandant of The Infantry School.

Messi scored 36 times for Barcelona, while PSG’s French forward Kylian Mbappe ended at the second spot after finishing the campaign on 33 goals. Messi’s Barcelona is set to face Valencia in the final of the Copa del Rey.
11. ₹14.7 crore gene therapy approved by US becomes most expensive drug
US’ Food and Drug Administration has approved Swiss drugmaker Novartis’ $2.1-million (₹14.7-crore), one-time gene therapy Zolgensma for treatment of a rare disease that afflicts infants, making it the world’s most expensive drug. Defending the price, Novartis executives said that a one-time treatment is better than expensive long-term treatments that cost several hundred thousand dollars a year.
12. Mary Kom, Sarita Devi win gold at India Open
Six-time world champion MC Mary Kom and Sarita Devi won gold medals at the second India Open boxing tournament, which concluded on Friday. India won medals in 52 kg, 81 kg, 91 kg and +91 kg men’s categories and 51 kg, 57 kg and 75 kg in women’s to conclude the campaign with 12 of the 18 gold medals available.
