1. International Museum Day 2024: 18th May

International Museum Day honours museums as important places to learn about and keep history and culture alive.

The theme for 2024, “Museums for Education and Research,” brings attention to how important museums are for offering complete learning experiences.

The event began in 1977 and now includes more than 35,000 museums from 140 countries. Its main goal is to promote cultural exchange and understanding around the world.

2. World AIDS Vaccine Day 2024: 18th May

About 38.4 million people around the world have HIV, and about two-thirds of them live in the WHO African Region.

About 1 in 7 people in the world are affected, which is 37.9 million people.

This holiday has been around since 1998.

The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which is a retrovirus, attacks the immune system. This causes acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), a disease in which the immune system is badly weakened.

3. UAE launched a 10-year Blue Residency visa

The UAE has introduced a new 10-year Blue Residency visa for individuals who have made outstanding contributions to environmental protection, whether on land or in marine environments.

In 2019, the UAE launched Golden Visas for diverse talents.

By 2022, Green Visas were introduced for skilled workers, lasting 5 years.

4. Veteran Author Malti Joshi Passes Away at 90

5. Indian Army Set to Receive Russian Igla-S Air Defence Systems

The Russian Igla-S Very Short Range Air Defence (VSHORAD) weapons are about to be sent to the Indian Army, which will make its air defence stronger.

This purchase, which includes a technology transfer deal between Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Limited (ADSTL) and Rosoboronexport of Russia, is a big step forward for India’s defence readiness.

6. India’s Foreign Exchange Reserves Jump $2.56 Billion to $644.15 Billion

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) says that India’s foreign exchange reserves rose by $2.56 billion and now stand at $644.15 billion for the week ending May 10.

This comes after a previous rise of $3.668 billion, which came after three weeks of drops.

Assets in foreign currencies

The foreign currency assets, which make up a big part of the savings, went up by $1.488 billion to $565.648 billion.

When non-US currencies like the euro, pound, and yen go up or down in value, it affects these investments.

During the stated week, gold reserves rose by a large amount, adding $1.072 billion to $55.952 billion.
