  1. Chanda Kochhar receives Woodrow Wilson Award

ICICI Bank CEO and Managing Director Chanda Kochhar has become the first Indian woman to receive the Woodrow Wilson Award for Global Corporate Citizenship, earlier awarded to the likes of former President APJ Abdul Kalam and Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy.

The Woodrow Wilson Award for Global Corporate Citizenship was given by the Woodrow Wilson Centre in Washington.

  1. Amitabh Bachchan appointed WHO Goodwill Ambassador for Hepatitis’

Celebrated Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, a Hepatitis B conqueror, was appointed the WHO Goodwill Ambassador for the Hepatitis awareness programme in southeast Asia region. He says nobody should suffer from the disease.

The veteran actor has been brought on board to boost awareness and intensify action to arrest the Hepatitis epidemic, the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced in a statement.

  1. Vinay Mohan Kwatra named India’s new ambassador to France

Seasoned diplomat Vinay Mohan Kwatra, currently a joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office, has been appointed as the next ambassador to France.

Announcing his appointment, the external affairs ministry said Kwatra is expected to take up his assignment shortly.

A 1988-batch foreign service officer, Kwatra will succeed Mohan Kumar, who is retiring.

  1. Kerala best-governed state in India: Report

For the second year running, Kerala and Tamil Nadu have maintained their positions as the states with the best governance in the country, according to the 2017 Public Affairs Index (PAI). The PAI aims to rank the states of India objectively in the field of governance based on various focus subjects and indicators and is an initiative of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC).

Followed by Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka, these states were at the top of the governance spectrum as seen from a wide range of important themes such as Essential Infrastructure, Support to Human Development, Social Protection, Women and Children, Crime, Law & Order, Delivery of Justice, Environment, Transparency & Accountability, Fiscal Management and Economic Freedom, as per the report.

  1. Ahmedabad to host biggest ever International Yoga Day event on June 21

Ahmedabad in Gujarat will host biggest ever International Yoga Day event on the 21st of June announced by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev. About 5 lakh people will participate in the event.

Chief Minister of Gujarat Mr. Vijay Rupani will inaugurate the event. The program will be conducted in partnership with Gujarat government which will also involve various social organizations. GMDC ground and AES ground of Ahmedabad will jointly host the event.

  1. Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana formally launched in Assan

In Assam, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is formally launched at a function held in Dibrugarh by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Union State Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan.

The Yojana which was launched by the Prime Minister on 1st May, 2016 at Ballia (UP) to provide clean cooking fuel to women belonging to below BPL household across the country. It aims to provide subsidized LPG connections to 5 crore families by 2019. Most of the connections would be in eastern India as there is less LPG penetration than the national average.

The Central government has been declared that plans which are underway to roll out Jan Aushadhi stores in 1,000 railway stations across India. The Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadhi scheme was a program which is roll out by the Government of India has to make quality medicines cheaper for those who can not able to buy it. Under this scheme, generic drugs, which are far lesser cost than the market prices for the branded medicines which are sold to the people.

 

  1. India test-fires ‘Spyder’ surface-to-air missile from Odisha test range

India has test fired a surface-to-air missile ‘Spyder’ from a test range in Odisha as part of missile launch practice of a series of tests of the short-range quick reaction.

Spyder (Surface-to-air PYthon and DERby) is an acquired missile system from Israel which is a short-range, quick reaction surface-to-air missile to neutralise enemy targets up to a distance of 15 km and at heights between 20-and-9,000 metres, the official added.

  1. Light Combat aircraft Tejas successfully test-fires air-to-air missile

India’s indigenous Light Combat Aircraft has successfully demonstrated an Air-to-Air Beyond Visual Range (BVR) missile firing capability by releasing Derby Air-to-Air BVR missile in RADAR guided mode.

The missile destroyed its manoeuvrable aerial target with pinpoint precision at the Interim Test Range, Chandipur in Odisha.

The objective of the test was to assess the Derby integration with aircraft systems on-board Tejas including the aircraft avionics, fire-control radar, launchers and Missile Weapon Delivery System and to verify its performance.

  1. Wrestler Bajrang wins gold at Asian C’ships

Bajranj Punia won the first gold medal for India at the Asian Wrestling Championship by defeating Lee Seungchul of South Korea in the final of the men’s 65 kg Freestyle division. Bajranj staged a superb comeback after conceeding the lead to dominate the second and final round and script a comprehensive 6-2 win.

12. Shri J P Nadda launches Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine (PCV) under Universal Immunization Programme (UIP)

Shri J P Nadda, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare stated this as he announced the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) in the Universal Immunization Programme (UIP) of the country in a function at Mandi.

Government is committed to reducing morbidity and mortality in children. Strengthening routine immunization is an essential investment in India’s children and will ensure a healthy future of the country.
