1. Renowned Urdu Writer Salam Bin Razzaq Passes Away at 83

The famous Urdu author and academician Shaikh Abdussalam Abdurrazzaq, who was better known by his pen name Salam Bin Razzaq, died on Tuesday at his home in Navi Mumbai after a long illness, according to a family friend.

Literary History

Razzaq, who died at the age of 83, left behind a lot of writing. In 2004, he won the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu writing for his well-known collection of short stories called “Shikasta Buton Ke Darmiyan.”

Starting from scratch and getting ideas

Razzaq was born in 1941 in Panvel, which is in the Raigad area. He came from a poor family.

Many of his works, both prose and poetry, were influenced by the struggles and hardships of regular people. A lot of his well-known characters were based on real people who had to deal with and get through daily problems in order to stay alive.

2. Appointment of Subodh Kumar (IAS) as Director in Ministry of Ayush

As of now, Subodh Kumar (IAS), an Indian Administrative Service officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre who joined in 2010, has been named Director of the Ministry of Ayush.

The position starts on the day they take over and lasts until October 8 or until further orders are given, whichever comes first. Kumar is on “Compulsory wait” at the Ministry of Food Processing Industries right now.

  • The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said in a notice on May 3 that Subodh Kumar has been chosen for the job.
  • The order says that he should be let go from his job at the Ministry of Food Processing Industries right away and start his new job at the Ministry of Ayush.

3. Scientists Unveil World’s Deepest Blue Hole in Mexico

Frontiers in Marine Science reports that experts have found the Taam Ja’ Blue Hole in Mexico’s Chetumal Bay to be the deepest blue hole known to exist on Earth.

It goes down an amazing 1,380 feet. This abyss is 480 feet deeper than the previous record-holder, the Sansha Yongle Blue Hole.

It is a fascinating place for scientists to explore and could lead to the finding of new marine life.

Figuring Out the Depths

  • Echo-sounders were only able to get as deep as 900 feet in the first depth measurements of the Taam Ja’ Blue Hole, which left a lot to the imagination.
  • Nevertheless, a recent dive using cutting-edge gear, such as a cutting-edge CTD analyzer, gave us more information about its sizes.
  • Researchers tried hard but couldn’t get to the bottom because at 1,380 feet, they might have run into problems like underwater rocks or strong currents.
  • This mysterious depth makes us wonder about the structure and possible connections between the cave systems inside the blue hole.

4. Indian Army and IAF Conduct Joint Exercise in Punjab

The Indian Army’s Western Command gave the Kharga Corps permission to hold a three-day drill with the Indian Air Force (IAF) in several places in Punjab.

The exercise went well. The goal of the drill was to improve procedures and make sure that attack helicopters could be used to help with mechanized operations in developed areas.

Gagan Strike II Exercise

As part of the drill, called “Gagan Strike-II,” Apache and ALH-WSI helicopters, Unarmed Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), and special forces from the Indian Army were used.

The main goal was to make sure that these assets could be used to help ground offensive operations by strike corps, along with live fire from helicopters as required by mechanized troops during offensive manoeuvres.

5. ICICI Bank Introduces UPI for NRIs Using International Mobile Numbers

ICICI Bank has released a new and innovative feature that lets customers who are not resident in India (NRI) use their foreign mobile numbers to make Unified Payments Interface (UPI) transactions in India.

This new idea is meant to make daily spending easier for NRIs by getting rid of the need to link an Indian phone number to their NRE or NRO accounts. This will make things more convenient.

Better convenience for NRIs

  • Before, NRIs who wanted to use UPI had to add an Indian phone number to their NRE/NRO accounts.
  • This made it harder for them to make payments. With ICICI Bank’s new service, NRIs can now use the foreign phone numbers linked to their accounts to make UPI transactions easily.
  • This has completely changed the way they pay for things.

6. Visa Appoints Sujai Raina as India Country Manager

Visa, a global tool for digital payments, said on Tuesday that Sujai Raina has been named as the new Country Manager for India.

Raina will be in charge of leading and carrying out Visa’s strategic plans in the Indian market, working with clients and the payments industry as a whole.

Sandeep Ghosh will also keep his job as Group Country Manager for India and South Asia.

In this position, he is in charge of Visa’s operations in India and other areas in South Asia, such as Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and the Maldives.

  • Sujai Raina will be in charge of growing Visa’s business in India as the Country Manager for the country.
  • Besides his new job, he will still be in charge of Visa’s business growth efforts in India.
