- Govt approves new national constitutional body for OBCs
The Union cabinet approved a National Commission for Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (NSEBC) as a constitutional body. The new panel will replace National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) that looks into inclusion or exclusion of other backward castes for quotas, among other issues. The related bill is likely to be introduced in Parliament in this ongoing budget session.
- Free Wi-Fi facility for colleges, universities launched in Bihar
The Bihar government has launched an ambitious programme to provide free WiFi facilities in colleges and universities. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar formally launched free WiFi facilities for students on the occasion of Bihar Divas celebrations. The objective is to provide free Wi-Fi facility to help youths to move ahead in life and to become digital smart.
- IIT-Kharagpur to get supercomputing facility
The Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, is the first academic institution to get a supercomputing facility under the National Supercomputing Mission (NSM). This will provide large computational support to users to carry out both research and teaching activities that involve state-of-the-art High Performance Computing (HPC) and usher in a new age in research and innovation in the country.
- India ranks 131 on Human Development Index, Norway No.1
India is ranked at 131 out of 188 countries on the United Nations Human Development Index.The report, released annually by the UN Development Programme, revealed that India’s rank of 131 puts it in the “medium human development” bracket, which also includes nations like Bangladesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Kenya, Myanmar and Nepal.The released report also said that regional disparities in education, health and living standards within India or inequality in human development has caused India’s downfall to 27% on HDI score.
- PM to inaugurate India’s longest road tunnel in J&K on April 2
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate to the nation, the country’s longest road tunnel built on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, which will cut short the distance between Jammu and Srinagar by nearly 30 km. The Prime Minister will inaugurate the Chenani-Nashri tunnel on JK highway on April 2.

The World Meteorological Day was observed globally on 23rd March 2017. The theme of WMD 2017 is ‘Understanding Cloud’ to highlight the enormous importance of clouds for weather climate and water. The day is organized every year by World Meteorological Organization (WMO).
- Nation paying tribute on 86th martyrdom day
Nation is paying tributes to freedom fighters –Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev on their 86th martyrdom day (23 March). On this day in 1931, British rulers had executed them in Lahore for their revolutionary activities against the British rule. They were hanged a day before the scheduled date of execution.
- India and ADB Signed $350 Million Loan for Roads in Madhya Pradesh
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $350 million loan for improving about 1,500 kilometers of major district roads in Madhya Pradesh in line with the State’s Road Development Plan.After signing the loan agreement, Mr. Raj Kumar, JS(MI) said that this project would complement the efforts of Government of Madhya Pradesh to bring about seamless road connectivity across the State by linking State Highways and Rural roads through District roads. It would provide an easier access to basic services and markets to people.
- Indian shooter Ankur Mittal wins gold at World Cup
Ankur Mittal clinched the gold medal at the ISSF Shotgun World Cup in the double trap event, pipping his Australian rival James Willet in the final in a world record equalling effort.Mittal had settled for a silver at the recent International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in New Delhi, where Willet had won the gold. Mittal ended with 75 points out of possible 80 in the six-man final to win India’s first medal in the competition while Willet managed 73.
- 8 medals bags by Indian para-athletes in IPC Athletics Grand Prix
Indian para athletes bagged eight medals, including three gold in the 9th Fazza International IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai. With 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze medals till the second day of competitions, India are currently at the seventh spot out of 48 participating countries. Sundar Singh Gurjar was the star among the Indians as he won a gold each in men’s Javelin Throw F-46 and Discus Throw F-46 competitions.
- Samsung Pay launched in India
Android phone maker Samsung will launch its digital payment application, called Samsung Pay, in the country as Indians look to shift to newer payment methods after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s demonetisation exercise.The early access service is available only with a few banks – Axis, HDFC, ICICI, SBI, and Standard Chartered. Samsung is expected to add support for Citibank and American Express soon.
