1. World Consumer Rights Day 2021

It is celebrated on 15 March across the world annually to spread awareness about the rights of consumers and their needs. The history behind the World Consumer Rights Day is that the first consumer movement was observed in 1983 and since then every year it is observed to mobilize an action on important issues and campaigns.

The theme of World Consumer Rights Day 2021 is ‘Tackling Plastic Pollution’.

2. First project Genome Mapping in Indian Ocean will be launched

In the Indian Ocean, the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) will launch the first-of-its-kind project of Genome Mapping. Indian Ocean covers about 20% of the Earths’s water surface and so is the third largest water bocy in the world.

3. US Becomes India’s Second Biggest Oil Supplier

The United States has become the second biggest oil suppliers of India by overtaking Saudi Arabia. This shift comes after the refiners boosted cheaper U.S. crude purchases to a record levels in order to offset the OPEC+ supply cuts.

5. Renowned artist Laxman Pai passes away at 95

Renowned artist and Padma Bhushan awardee Laxman Pai passed away at his residence in Goa on March 14, 2021. He was 95. Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant tweeted saying, “Deeply saddened by the passing away of renowned Goan artist Padma Bhushan Shri Laxman Pai.

6. Bhavani Devi becomes first Indian fencer to qualify for Olympics

Bhavani Devi created history on March 14, 2021 by becoming the first Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics. The 27-year-old reserved her spot in the Tokyo Olympics through the Adjusted Official Ranking (AOR) method.

7. Jammu & Kashmir government approves Rs. 2 lakh interest-free loan for PMAY-U beneficiaries

8. Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish win top prizes at 63rd Grammy Awards

At the 63rd Grammy Awards, Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish won the top prizes while Beyonce became the most awarded female artist in Grammy history with her 28th win. Taylor Swift was awarded album of the year for her lockdown album ‘Folklore’, while Billie Eilish’s “Everything I Wanted” won record of the year.
