1. World Kidney Day observed globally on 11th March 2021
World Kidney Day is observed globally on the second Thursday of March every year. This year World Kidney Day is observed on 11th March 2021. The theme of the 2021 World Kidney day is “Living Well with Kidney Disease”.
2. Union Cabinet approves Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Nidhi
The Union Cabinet has approved the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Nidhi (PMSSN), as a single non-lapsable reserve fund. This has been approved for the share of Health from proceeds of Health and Education Cess which is levied under the Section 136-b of Finance Act, 2007.
3. Cabinet Approves Amendments in Insurance Act 1938
The Union Cabinet has given its nod for amendments in the Insurance Act, paving way for 74 per cent foreign direct investment in the sector. Currently, the permissible FDI limit in life and general insurance stands at 49 per cent with ownership and management control with Indian.
4. Ivory Coast Prime Minister Hamed Bakayoko passes away
The incumbent Prime Minister of Ivory Coast, Hamed Bakayoko, has passed away due to cancer. He was named prime minister in July 2020 following the sudden death of his predecessor, Amadou Gon Coulibaly. President of Ivory Coast, Alassane Ouattara, has named Patrick Achi as interim prime minister in place of Bakayoko. Patrick Achi was serving as the chief of defence staff of the country.
5. GoI appoints Dr. GP Samanta as new Chief Statistician of India
The Central Government has appointed Dr G P Samanta as the new Chief Statistician of India (CSI) for a period of two years. He is India’s fourth CSI. He will replace Kshatrapati Shivaji who was holding an additional charge of the post since September 2020.
6. Uttar Pradesh government to launch Arjuna Sahayak irrigation Project
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath informed on March 10, 2021, that Arjuna Sahayak Irrigation Project worth Rs. 2,600 crores will bring positive changes in the lives of the farmers of Hamirpur, Mahoba, and Banda in the Bundelkhand region which was denied to them by the previous governments.
7. BRICS contact group holds first meeting on trade and economic issues
According to the official statement, the BRICS Contact Group on Economic and Trade Issues- CGETI held its first meeting under the Chairmanship of India from March 9 to March 11, 2021.
The theme of BRICS 2021 is ‘BRICS@15: Intra BRICS Cooperation for Continuity, Consolidation, and Consensus’.
8. UP government orders removal of all roadside religious structures
The Uttar Pradesh government on March 11, 2021 ordered the removal of all religious structures on public roads. The official press release from the Home Department stated that no structure or construction of religious nature should be allowed on public roads, streets, pavements and by the roadside.
9. Mithali Raj becomes first Indian woman cricketer to score 10,000 international runs across all formats
The veteran batter of the Indian women’s cricket team Mithali Raj on March 12, 2021, became the first Indian woman cricketer to complete 10,000 international runs across all cricket formats. She has also become the second woman cricketer internationally to achieve the milestone.
10. ISRO- JAXA review cooperation on Lunar polar exploration
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) reviewed their cooperation, on March 11, 2021, in the space arena including the earth observation, lunar cooperation and satellite navigation.
