1. Ashgabat world’s most expensive city for foreign workers
Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan in Central Asia, has been named the world’s most expensive city for foreign workers. The city topped the list in a 2021 cost-of-living survey by consultancy firm Mercer. Hong Kong was on the second position, followed by Beirut in Lebanon and Tokyo in Japan.
2. Max Verstappen Wins 2021 Styrian Grand Prix
Max Verstappen (Netherlands-Red Bull) has won the 2021 Styrian Grand Prix. This is the fourth win of Verstappen in the 2021 Formula One season. Also, with this win, Verstappen leads the 2021 driver’s championship standings with 156 points followed by Hamilton (138). Lewis Hamilton (Britain-Mercedes) stood second. Valtteri Bottas (Finland- Mercedes) came third.
3. A book titled “Fiercely Female: The Dutee Chand Story” by Sundeep Mishra
Journalist Sundeep Mishra’s book titled ‘Fiercely Female: The Dutee Chand Story’ chronicles Chand’s journey with a detailed narrative of the gender-identity controversy that made her an iconic figure in Indian sport. The book was published by Westland Books.
4. RK Sabharwal gets highest civilian award of Mongolia
Engineers India Limited (EIL) Chairman & Managing Director (CMD), RK Sabharwal has been honoured with the highest civilian award of Mongolia ‘The Order of Polar Star by his excellency. The President of Mongolia recognises the outstanding contribution made by him towards the establishment of the first-ever oil refinery in Mongolia.
5. Goa becomes first state to go rabies free
Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant announced that Goa has become the first state in the country to be Rabies free. CM informed that not a single case of rabies had been found in the state since the last three years. The team of mission rabies had been very effectively doing its job and had been also conducting vaccination for dogs.
6. Cristiano Ronaldo becomes joint top-scorer in men’s international football
Cristiano Ronaldo has become the joint-top scoring men’s international player of all time. He is currently tied with Iran legend Ali Daei, who scored 109 times in 149 matches between 1993 and 2006.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored two penalties to tie the overall men’s scoring record with 109 goals in 176 matches and Portugal advanced to the round of 16 at the European Championship after a 2-2 draw with France.
7. Amazon’s AWS Acquires Encrypted Messaging App Wickr
Amazon has acquired an American instant messaging app ‘Wickr’ to offer secure communications for businesses, government agencies, and individuals, who are moving to hybrid work environments, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It must be noted that Wickr offers the most secure, end-to-end encrypted, communication technology, with advanced security features, that are not available with traditional communications services across messaging, voice and video calling, file sharing, and collaboration.
8. World Bank Approves USD125 million financial support for Kerala
The World Bank Board of Executive Directors has approved a $125 million support for the ‘Resilient Kerala Program’ to help the state in preparedness against natural disasters, climate change impacts, disease outbreaks, and pandemics.
The $125 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) has a final maturity of 14 years including a grace period of six years.
9. Micro-, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day: 27 June
The United Nations Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises Day is held on June 27 since 2017 to celebrate the work of MSME in local and global economies and their contribution to sustainable development.
The day also recognises the contribution of these industries in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In 2021, the theme is “MSME 2021: key to an inclusive and sustainable recovery.”
10. DRDO successfully test fires enhanced Pinaka Rockets
Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully test fired an extended range version of “Pinaka” rocket. Test fire was carried at Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha on June 25.
11. Centre launches e-filing portal of Income Tax Appellate Tribunal
Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched ‘itat e-dwar’, the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) on June 25, 2021.
The portal will enable the online filing of appeals, applications and documents by various parties.
12. DRDO successfully test-fires Agni-Prime missile off the coast of Odisha
As per the Government Sources, India on August 28, 2021, successfully carried out the test-firing of a new missile of the Agni series known as Agni-Prime off the coast of Odisha.
Reportedly, India successfully carried out the test-firing of a new missile of the Agni Series known as Agni-Prime at 10.55 am on June 28, off the coast of Odisha. The new nuclear-capable missile is fully made up of composite material and it was a textbook launch.
13. Indian shooter Rahi Sarnobat wins gold medal
Tokyo Olympics-bound Indian shooter Rahi Sarnobat won the gold medal in the 25m pistol event at the ongoing International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup being held in Osijek, Croatia on June 28, 2021.
Sarnobat’s win on June 28 is India’s first gold in 25m pistol event at the ISSF in 2021. Earlier in 2013, she won the gold medal in the 25m pistol event at the ISSF World cup that was held in Changwon, South Korea.
14. Archer Deepika Kumari becomes world No. 1 after winning gold at World Cup
Star Indian archer Deepika Kumari on Monday regained the number one position in global rankings following her hat-trick of gold medals at the World Cup Stage 3 here.
The 27-year-old from Ranchi, who had achieved the top spot for the first time in 2012, on Sunday claimed gold medals in three recurve events — women’s individual, team and mixed pair.
