1. 64th International Sugar Organisation Council Meeting in New Delhi

The 64th meeting of the International Sugar Organization (ISO) Council began on June 25, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.

More than 30 countries’ delegates and leaders from other international groups were there. The meeting, which will take place from June 25th to June 27th, 2024, is meant to talk about problems in the biofuels and sugar industries.

India as the head of ISO

At the 63rd ISO Council meeting in London, India was chosen to be Chairman of the International Sugar Council for 2024.

India is holding the 64th meeting as the current chairman. Sanjeev Chopra, Secretary of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, is in charge of the meeting.

The Global Sugar Industry and India’s Place in It

110 countries, according to the ISO, make sugar from sugarcane or sugar beets. Sugarcane makes up 80% of the world’s sugar.

The top five producers are in order: Brazil, India, the EU, China, and the USA. India is the biggest consumer of sugar and the second-biggest producer of it.

It makes up about 15% of the world’s sugar usage and 20% of its production. India is also the third biggest maker of ethanol, a biofuel made from sugarcane molasses, after the United States and Brazil. India’s top three states for growing sugarcane are Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka.

2. J.P. Nadda Appointed as Leader of The House in Rajya Sabha

The head of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a Union Minister, Jagat Prakash Nadda, has been named Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal was recently elected to the Lok Sabha and took his oath as a member of the Lower House of Parliament on June 24. Mr. Nadda will take his place.

Chief of the House in the Rajya Sabha

Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha is the leader and chairperson of the parliament for the majority party in Rajya Sabha.

Usually, this person is a cabinet minister or another minister who has been appointed.

The Leader of the House is in charge of setting up business and government meetings in the House. There is nothing in the constitution or the Rules of Rajya Sabha that says this post exists.

The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha is Mallikarjun Kharge, who is president of the Congress party.

The Union Council of Ministers is made up of Mr. Nadda and 11 other members of the Upper House of Parliament.

3. India Wins 11 Medals at the U-17 Asian Wrestling Championship 2024

There were 11 medals won by Indian fighters in the Under-17 Asian Wrestling Championship 2024. Four were gold, two were silver, and five were bronze.

From June 22nd to 24th, 2024, the event took place in Amman, Jordan. After the U-17 game, the U-23 championship began.

4. International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2024 – June 26

People from all over the world gather on June 26 to mark International Day against Drug Abuse and Illegal Trafficking, which is also known as World Drug Day.

The UN set up this important day in 1987 to make people more aware of the risks of drug abuse and to get people to work together to get rid of this problem once and for all.

The 2024 Theme: “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention”

The theme for this year’s World Drug Day is how important it is to use scientific proof to stop people from abusing drugs.

The theme makes it clear that we need to do more and spend more to stop drug problems before they start.
